UBeen there yet?

The Taxi hailing Uber has certainly changed the way the whole world has viewed Land Transportation in inner city Urban areas. Both ASan and I have been huge fans of Uber ever since they started operating in Chennai, and barring some hiccups caused by local regulations, they’ve had a pretty tremendous run in India since their launch.

Now here's something interesting ... your own, personal, analytics on your rides with Uber. And if I might add...quite insightful! Check this one out...


But before we proceed, let's backtrack a little bit.

I'd only read about Uber prior to their India launch, and was naturally quite curious. My first ride with them was certainly legendary and was from home to a nearby church, and was in nothing less than a Mercedes E Class! The ride was for about 30 mins, set me back by about Rs. 110, and was too good to be true!

Fast forward to present day and sadly, the Mercs have all gone. But the App and its services are still there and availability has become massive. They’ve spread their wings all across the country and have most of the metros have been covered.

Cut to today.

I stumbled upon UBeen, a rather cool web application that basically lays out all your specific Uber data in an easy to read and interesting format. Total rides taken, distance travelled and other related interesting trivia are all available once you log in.

Here's a look at the analytics from my Uber account...or one of them, anyway (yeah!). And BTW, my first real ride was actually a couple of months before what's stated here.




Among other things, I'm quite intrigued by my rides with Uber on Saturdays. Maybe I need to set up an appointment with a de-addiction specialist! (Of course, I'm kidding).

I checked out of the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile yesterday morning, and checked into the Le Meridien Etoile, just around the corner from the Hyatt, in the evening after a day's sightseeing. Hyatt was kind enough to hold my bags for the duration of the day (which is a surprise in today's world of terror threats), and I'm grateful to them for that. Kolkata's new terminal, and what a relief! (And lots of pictures)

For the longest time, Kolkata (CCU) had pathetic terminals – both for domestic and international flights – and it was high time they did something about it. Now, the Airports Authority of India must be complimented on the new Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. The airport is really fresh, swanky, and actually makes the flying experience in and out of CCU a whole lot better. The new terminal is an integrated terminal for domestic and international flights, and set out in an wide “V” with unequal arms, the longer arm being the domestic side. The terminal building itself is at one end of the runway, and is to the right of the old terminal, when viewed from the city side (left from airside). Defunct airlines of India - Part 1

ASan and I met for lunch over the weekend. If you knew us personally, you'd know that we're both forever thirsty, if you get my meaning. You'd also know that there are always discussions around ideas for posts. Most of them are flights of fancy (pun intended!), and almost always unviable. But two men with some alcohol in them can dream, can't they? Anyway, this time the discussion finally got down to something that interests both of us, though in very different ways.
