Smoking areas at Indian airports

I know its a dirty habit, but it has been around for nearly 7000 years! Granted, aviation is only a little over a 100 years old, but there always will be smokers. So here’s a low-down on smoking rules and areas in some airports:

New Delhi

Terminal 1D (Domestic): Available, after security. Go to the food court on the first floor. The smoking room has been relocated to the ground level (all boarding gates) and is near the crew security area opposite Gate 13.

Terminal 3 (Domestic):
Available, after security. There’s one on the first floor – between the eateries and the lounges, one on the left just before the ramp towards the gates (at the end of the food stalls), and one behind the flight display screens between the left and right concourses.

Terminal 3 (International): Smoking areas are available only at the concourses to gates. There's one on the right at the beginning of the right concourse, and one in the middle on the "D" pier.

Mumbai

Terminal 1A (Domestic):  [I'm grateful to anyone who can update this information.]

Terminal 1B (Domestic): There used to be one on the first floor behind the Jet Airways lounge, accessible via the elevator just next to the boarding gates. [I'm grateful to anyone who can update this information.]

Terminal 1C (Domestic): Available, after security, after the Carnations lounge, and before the Media Mart outlet, on your right.

Terminal 2 (Mixed use): Available, after security. The smoking room is tucked inside a passageway on the right, just after clearing immigration. [I'm grateful to anyone who can update this information.]

Chennai

Domestic terminal: Available, after security, at the new domestic terminal. Turn left after security and go to the very end, next to the restaurant.

International terminal: Available, after security. There's one in the new terminal building at the end of the departures level on the left, and another in the old terminal building near the TFS lounge.

Kolkata

Domestic terminal: Available, after security. Turn right on the main concourse, and walk till the end. There's a glass separator between the domestic and international areas, which is where you'll find a smoking room.

International: [I'm grateful to anyone who can update this information.]

Bengaluru

Domestic: Available, after security. Just past the shops, turn right and go upstairs where the "Above Ground Level" lounge is located on the right. On the left is the business centre for the lounge. Between the two is the smoking room.

International: There is a smoking pod that accommodate about 4-5 people at a time. Due to ongoing renovations within the airport, the exact location of the smoking area could change.

Hyderabad

Domestic: Available, after security. Just before the eateries and lounges, on your left, along the main concourse.

International: [I'm grateful to anyone who can update this information.]

Jaipur

One terminal only: After security, on the first level, between the concourses to gates.

Cochin / Kochi

No smoking area within the terminal. You will have to get your fix outside the airport building. Technically that area is also non-smoking, but the security guards will indulge you if you ask nicely for a place to smoke.

Vishakhapatnam / Vizag

Domestic (ground level): After security, at the far right corner of the departures hold area.

The key to finding smoking zones seem to be, that you have them at private airports, and you generally don’t at the AAI-run airports, though this trend is changing. More information is welcome, and will get update on this post.

  6. in kolkata international airport there are smoke rooms both before and after security check. U can find the first one near check in counter H and the next one is near gate 16 right at the intersection of domestic and international zone (on the other side of the glass door by the smoking zone for domestic terminal)

  7. Was there a few years back. Can't recall a smoking area inside the terminal, though you can smoke outside.

  8. Kochi airport has a very nice open air smoking area and pub in the departure lounge. After security once you reach the departure lounge, you have to go one floor up and look for the bar/pub. You can even buy cigarettes at the bar
