The irony of Starwood's next promotion...and the silver lining (of sorts)
Starwood's current promotion - Triple Up - wasn't spectacular, but at least it was something. They've managed to beat their own current low, with the next promotion which starts 12 September 2016, called More For You. Read on to find out why that's is clearly a misnomer!
Registration begins on 12 September 2016, and the promotion is valid for stays between 12 September and 18 December 2016. You can register here once registration opens.
Under this promotion, you'll earn
- double Starpoints on weekday stays of two or more nights and
- triple Starpoints on weekends. Eligible weekend stays must be two or more nights and include a Friday or Saturday (Thursday or Friday in select locations, presumably the middle east).
If you recall the Triple Up promotion, that offered 2x points for all stays (3x at Sheraton hotels), plus 1,000 points for a weekend stay. I managed a few bonus points from this promotion during my recent stay at the Sheraton Bahrain.
Sheraton Bahrain
The More For You is therefore clearly worse than the previous one, and is certainly not going to make me move my stays to Sheraton (not that I have much hotel stays planned between now and December).
Maybe they could've named the promotion Not Much For You, but that wouldn't do them much good (even if it catches more eyeballs!).
The silver lining
Bad as the promotion is, at least has the saving grace of an opportunity to win some bonus Starpoints, even before the promotion begins.Between now and 11 September 2016 (that's one day before the promotion opens), you can play a game here, for a chance to instantly win 1,000, 5,000 or 10,000 Starpoints, or a 1 free night award. Plus each time you participate, you get an entry for the grand prize of 5 free night awards and 50,000 Starpoints.
The game offers 11 cards - one for each brand of SPG's - with facts about the brand. Click on a card to be instantly notified if you've won anything.
Unfortunately for me, good luck is still taking a snooze, it seems.
I'll be back, though.
