SPG up to 50% off on stays in Asia Pacific

The hotel scene in Asia Pacific seems to be hotting up. Hilton HHonors has just announced a 2x points promotion in conjunction with Visa (that's in addition to the Big World Sale), and IHG has just announced a promotion for stays in Singapore (which we haven't written about). SPG offered an "up to 50% discount" sale in end-May 2016. And they're back now with another "up to 50% discount" sale at participating hotels in Asia Pacific, for bookings by 24 July 2016 for stays between 21 July and 30 November 2016.

To be clear, the offer is for "up to 50%", and from what I've seen, there's rarely any hotel that has rooms for sale at the full 50% discount level. Some hotels also add complimentary breakfast as part of this sale. You can access the sale here. and the detailed T&Cs for this offer here.

In India, the following 29 hotels are participating in this promotion:

I had run a search for a one-night stay for 1-2 October 2016 a few days back. Assuming the rates I got then were without any promotion being applied to them, here's how rates under this promotion for the same dates, compare.

Old rates above were obtained a month ago, and New rates are under this promotion. Now, I'm not saying that those previous rates are sacrosanct enough to be considered as base rates - they could have well increased since then due to various reasons. So these aren't strictly comparable. However, it is some interesting data to consider.

Conclusion

As I mentioned with regards to the previous such sale a little over a month ago, it looks like there isn't much of a discount on many of the India-based hotels. However, there's an off chance that you may actually end up with something significant. This is also an opportunity to get SPG Gold after just 1 stay in Asia Pacific, when you pay with a World or World Elite MasterCard credit card.
