IHG extends Book Direct promo for 30,000 points till 31 December 2016

Back in March this year, IHG came out with a promotion to reward members for making bookings directly with IHG, as opposed to through an agency or OTA. This offer was valid for bookings till 31 August 2016. However, IHG has now extended this promotion till 31 December 2016. Essentially, you can earn 1,000 points just for registering for this promotion, and a further 29,000 points total for 3 stays thereafter. Here's more.



The offer is valid for members resident in Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa. Basically, you earn points as follows:
  • 1,000 points on registration
  • 5,000 points after your first stay
  • 9,000 points after your second stay
  • 15,000 points after your third stay.

What's more, IHG is currently offering 35% off rates for members, so that's an added plus.


You can access the promotion here. Note, that this is only an extension of the last date, and not a new promotion (how I wish it were!).

You can even combine this with other promotions that are valid for the Asia Pacific, Middle East or Africa regions, such as Accelerate 2016 Summer promotion.

You can get a one-night stay at a category 3/4/5 hotels for 30,000 points or less. or multiple nights at category 1 and 2 hotels. And if you get really lucky with Points Break offers, that's just 5,000 points for an award night at select hotels.

I completed my 3 stays earlier this year, at Holiday Inn Express Gachibowli, Hyderabad, Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium, Singapore, and Crowne Plaza Adyar Park, Chennai. And though the points have all posted, IHG's math and logic engines do suck!



Conclusion

This promotion is based on stays rather than nights. Which actually works well for someone like me, whose stays are typically for 1 night only. Nonetheless, 30,000 IHG points after 3 stays is quite a good deal, in my opinion.

    I din see this offer closely when I opted for it..I just realised I made 5000 and 9000 points on my last two stays and one more stay will get me 15k points.. time to book something quickly..!!!!

I checked out of the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile yesterday morning, and checked into the Le Meridien Etoile, just around the corner from the Hyatt, in the evening after a day's sightseeing. Hyatt was kind enough to hold my bags for the duration of the day (which is a surprise in today's world of terror threats), and I'm grateful to them for that. The Le Meridien has standard and chic rooms as two of their base category rooms. As I mentioned in the introduction post, I booked a chic room on an award. Kolkata's new terminal, and what a relief! (And lots of pictures)

For the longest time, Kolkata (CCU) had pathetic terminals – both for domestic and international flights – and it was high time they did something about it. Now, the Airports Authority of India must be complimented on the new Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. The airport is really fresh, swanky, and actually makes the flying experience in and out of CCU a whole lot better. The new terminal is an integrated terminal for domestic and international flights, and set out in an wide “V” with unequal arms, the longer arm being the domestic side. The terminal building itself is at one end of the runway, and is to the right of the old terminal, when viewed from the city side (left from airside). Defunct airlines of India - Part 1

ASan and I met for lunch over the weekend. If you knew us personally, you'd know that we're both forever thirsty, if you get my meaning. You'd also know that there are always discussions around ideas for posts. Most of them are flights of fancy (pun intended!), and almost always unviable.
