Hilton HHonors points sale with 80% bonus

If you missed out purchasing Hilton HHonors points at a 100% bonus, here's a second chance, albeit with a lower - 80% - bonus on points purchased. Not the same as a 100% bonus, but not bad either, when you consider the benefits. This offer is valid for 4 days only, ie till 18 July 2016. Here's more.

Hilton HHonors normally sells points at $10 per 1000 points, or about Rs 0.68 per point at today's approximate exchange rates. With an 80% bonus, that brings the per-point cost down to Rs 0.38, which is pretty decent, actually.

Under this promotion, you can buy a maximum of 80,000 points, against which you'll receive a bonus of 64,000 points (80%) - that's 124,000 points for $800, or Rs 54,400 at today's exchange rates.

We value Hilton HHonors points at Rs 0.19 apiece, but there are a lot of hotels that you can get better value than the purchase price of Rs 0.37 under this promotion. Here are a couple of options within India:

Hilton Jaipur

Take a look a the rates for this new year's eve 2016.

The choice between 20,000 points (which can be purchased at Rs 7,400 under this 80% bonus promotion) versus Rs 10,000++, is clear.

Conrad Pune

Also, do pay attention Hilton's new points and money rewards. Case in point (no pun intended!), the Conrad Pune.

Let's ignore the standard award night for 30,000 HHonors points. However, the points and money reward rate is 12,000 points + Rs 3,411. Under this promotion, those 12,000 points can be purchased at an effective price of Rs 4,440, which brings the total cost of a room night here, to Rs 7,851. That represents a clear 21% discount on the flexible paid rate of Rs 9,499++.

Hilton HHonors 5th night free

One way to further maximise on this promotion is when you're a member at Silver, Gold or Diamond level, and book an award stay of 5 nights. Hilton HHonors provides a 5th night free benefit to those levels of members, which will provide a further 20% saving.

Conclusion

As always, I wouldn't recommend buying points speculatively, given that (at least in theory) devaluations can take place at any time. However, if you've got a stay planned or imminent, this may be a good way to get some great savings. This is also a great time to buy miles if you intend to book hotels overseas during the Christmas / New Year period, or during the festival season in India in October / November.
