Jet Airways will let you take an earlier flight for Rs 1000
Jet Airways - and for that matter, Indian full service carriers in general - are not known to be very innovative when it comes to offering new products. Concerns like that are usually the exclusive domain of low-fare carriers. So it does come as a surprise to me that Jet Airways is coming up with products like the one they've announced today, called JetAdvance, which allows a passenger to take an earlier flight, for a fee of Rs 1,000. In other words, a solution to a problem that I'd love to have!
I've never had the benefit of finishing work early enough to be able to take an earlier flight, so I really don't know what value this offering has, in practical terms!
But here's the gist - for a fee of Rs 1,000, you can take a flight up to 4 hours before your scheduled Jet Airways flight. Simple as that. Of course, there have to be seats available.
To be clear, the service is not available for deferring your flight, ie, you cannot take a later flight than the one originally scheduled.
This service is available only for domestic flights, and the passenger needs to be present at the airport, in order to get rebooked on to the earlier flight. I assume that with the "protection fee" of Rs 1,000 being paid, there won't be a need to pay a fare differential.
I also assume that the Rs 1,000 needs to be paid in advance, at the time of booking. I could be wrong about that, though, because as of now, the booking engine is not configured to accept this facility as an extra at the time of booking.
So maybe the payment needs to be done at the airport.
You can read about this facility here.
With that in mind, and assuming there's no fare differential to be paid, this can potentially be useful on some (but not all) flights where the passenger expects their work to be completed ahead of schedule.

Conclusion
As I said earlier, this is not a problem I've had. However, I can understand the need for people to travel earlier than scheduled. One scenario where this might come in handy, might be when the original flight is delayed. With that in mind, and assuming there's no fare differential to be paid, this can potentially be useful on some (but not all) flights where the passenger expects their work to be completed ahead of schedule.
