Indigo announces sale for July-September 2016

Indigo has just announced its sale for travel during the period 1 July to 30 September 2016, with fares starting at Rs 829, The second quarter (or Q2, when this promotion applies) is traditionally one of the weakest quarters from a travel perspective. While business travel remains largely unchanged, personal travel during this period is limited. That's because this period falls squarely between the Q1 (April-June) when summer vacations are on for most schools and colleges, and Q3 (October-December) which is the festival and holidays season.

You can access Indigo's sale and rates here. The fare of Rs 829, though, is just the lowest fare, and not really a representative fare for most routes.

While the advertised fares are for one-way routes, they are equally valid for round trip or open jaw bookings as well. However, because the airline is looking to encash (albeit at a lower yield) some of the seats that might otherwise go empty, the sale is capacity controlled.

Having said that, I can find pretty decent fares on this sale (not that I have any plans as of now). For instance, on the BOM-DEL route, the normal fares are around Rs 3,500 or higher, whereas the fare under this sale is Rs 2,853, which I'm able to find online.

Indigo's fare chart for a month also shows available fares both before and during the promotion period.

Just bear in mind that the lowest fare may not be available on your preferred day of travel, or on your preferred flight timing on a given day. So prepare to be flexible to that extent, if you plan to book tickets under this promotion.
