Flat 20% discount at India, Bangladesh and Maldives SPG hotels - Amex cards promotion

Following on from the Sheraton-Amex offer we wrote about earlier this week (40% off on every 2nd night at participating Sheraton hotels), here's another offer from SPG, targeted at American Express card holders - a flat 20% off on the Best Available Rate - on bookings by 30 June 2016 for stays till 31 August 2016. This is valid for participating properties in India, Bangladesh and Maldives, on a stay of 2 nights minimum.


So for every stay that's of 2 or more nights, guests receive a 20% discount on the BAR, when booked and paid with an American Express card. Remember to book before 30 June 2016. You can access the promotion here and the T&Cs here.

The above is the normal rate for an executive club room - Rs 9,100. Below is the same room under the Amex offer, after applying the 20% discount automatically.


Pro-tips

If your stay is before 31 July 2016, you can use this promotion and, in addition, earn 3x or 2x points under SPG's Triple Up summer promotion. On the other hand, if SPG Gold status interests you more than the 20% Amex discount, you can consider this SPG-Mastercard promotion for SPG Gold after just 1 stay in Asia-Pacific.

Conclusion

As a refreshing change, we're seeing flat out % discounts that are applied as such, without an "Up to x% discount" promotion. The 20% discount is quite good, especially when you can combine a stay with SPG's Triple Up promotion and earn some additional points - possibly also a great opportunity to do mattress runs, if you're looking to pad up your SPG points balance or extend its validity. At this point, although I don't have an SPG stay coming up, I am personally be more interested in SPG Gold through the Mastercard promotion.

I checked out of the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile yesterday morning, and checked into the Le Meridien Etoile, just around the corner from the Hyatt, in the evening after a day's sightseeing. Hotel review: Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium

As part of my recent business visit to Singapore, I spent an extra night there just so I could catch up with friends, some of whom I haven't met in over a decade. And because I needed one more stay to qualify for the bonus under IHG's Accelerate 2016 promotion , and also simultaneously earn a few more IHG Rewards Club bonus points under the Book Direct promotion, I decided I was going to spend the extra night at an IHG hotel. Luckily for me, just hours before my flight to Singapore, I was able to get a rate of SG$150++ a night, which is a fantastic rate for Singapore, especially for a booking as late as mine was.
