40% bonus on purchase of JP miles till 30 June 2016

Jet Privilege has been offering various JP mile sales promotions in the recent past, relatively high bonuses. Their last sale was for up to 40% bonus, for miles purchased till the end of April 2016. There's now a rather less-publicised offer for up to 40% bonus on the purchase of JP miles, which expires soon - 30 June 2016, to be exact.


The overall sale is virtually identical to the April sale, with bonuses increasing as your number of miles purchased increases.


JP miles are sold at Rs 1.25 apiece, plus 15% taxes, bringing the total cost to Rs 1.4375 per mile. Including the bonus, the average price per mile reduces to:
  • Rs 1.307 per mile with a 10% bonus
  • Rs 1.198 per mile with a 20% bonus
  • Rs 1.106 per mile with a 30% bonus
  • Rs 1.027 per mile with a 40% bonus

I value JP miles at Rs 0.72 per mile, based entirely on domestic redemptions. However, it is possible to get much higher value when you use JP miles for international redemptions, last minute bookings (if award seats are available), business class travel (generally), and partner award bookings.

The 40% bonus is one of the highest bonuses Jet has offered for the purchase of miles. So if you have a need to top up your JP miles balance or have a good value redemption in the offing, now's a good time to buy up miles at nearly 29% discount (which is what the 40% bonus translates into, effectively).

I checked out of the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile yesterday morning, and checked into the Le Meridien Etoile, just around the corner from the Hyatt, in the evening after a day's sightseeing. Hyatt was kind enough to hold my bags for the duration of the day (which is a surprise in today's world of terror threats), and I'm grateful to them for that. The Le Meridien has standard and chic rooms as two of their base category rooms. As I mentioned in the introduction post, I booked a chic room on an award. Kolkata's new terminal, and what a relief! (And lots of pictures)

For the longest time, Kolkata (CCU) had pathetic terminals – both for domestic and international flights – and it was high time they did something about it. Now, the Airports Authority of India must be complimented on the new Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. The airport is really fresh, swanky, and actually makes the flying experience in and out of CCU a whole lot better. The new terminal is an integrated terminal for domestic and international flights, and set out in an wide “V” with unequal arms, the longer arm being the domestic side. The terminal building itself is at one end of the runway, and is to the right of the old terminal, when viewed from the city side (left from airside). Defunct airlines of India - Part 1

ASan and I met for lunch over the weekend. If you knew us personally, you'd know that we're both forever thirsty, if you get my meaning. You'd also know that there are always discussions around ideas for posts. Most of them are flights of fancy (pun intended!), and almost always unviable.
