SPG's sale up to 50% off in Asia-Pacific

Starwood has announced a short-window sale for up to 50% discounts on its participating properties in Asia-Pacific. The discount is valid for bookings till 5 June 2016, for stays between 2 June and 31 October 2016. SPG members get an additional 5% discount. Read on for more...

This offer is valid at participating SPG hotels and resorts across Asia Pacific. You can access this offer here.

The discount varies by property and according to the promotion, the offer is for "up to 50%" and not a guaranteed 50% discount. What this means, is that many properties don't show a large enough discount for me to hit the book button. In fact, from what I've checked out at many of the participating properties in India, the discount is rarely 50%. Here's an example for random dates, at the St Regis Mumbai where I stayed last year, and where the typical price 2 months out is in the region of Rs 12,000++.

The discounted price is Rs 10,200++ a night, which is approximately a 15% discount from normal prices.

SPG has 53 properties in India, all of which are participating in this offer except the following 17 hotels:
  • Four Points By Sheraton Agra
  • Le Méridien Coimbatore
  • Four Points By Sheraton Dehradun
  • Four Points By Sheraton New Delhi, Airport Highway
  • Le Méridien New Delhi
  • ITC Grand Bharat, A Luxury Collection Resort, Gurgaon, New Delhi Capital Region
  • ITC Rajputana, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Jaipur
  • ITC Sonar, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Kolkata
  • Four Points By Sheraton Navi Mumbai, Vashi
  • Four Points By Sheraton Vadodara
  • Four Points By Sheraton Visakhapatnam
  • The Park Bangalore, A Member Of Design Hotels
  • The Park Chennai, A Member Of Design Hotels
  • The Park Hyderabad, A Member Of Design Hotels
  • The Park Kolkata, A Member Of Design Hotels
  • The Park New Delhi, A Member Of Design Hotels
  • The Anya Hotel, Gurgaon, A Member Of Design Hotels

Conclusion

You should consider yourself lucky if you get a discount close to the advertised maximum of 50%. If you do get such a rate, then it is worth booking. However, do be careful because the rates are non-refundable, so your travel plans would need to be firm.

If you're interested, you could also club a stay under this offer with the SPG-MasterCard offer for SPG Gold after just 1 stay in Asia-Pacific.
