1,000 bonus IHG Rewards Club points for downloading the IHG app

IHG is offering 1,000 bonus points just to download the IHG app for smartphones. While 1,000 points isn't much, every little helps to keep building your account balance and to show some activity. Here's how you can get these 1,000 bonus points.


Like any other hotel chain's app, the IHG app too allows you to check your account balance, and make reservations and cancellations. Overall, I find it quite convenient to look up my membership number, check my points balance and search rooms and availability, though to be honest, I've never actually used it to book a hotel room. I find IHG's app to be actually a bit faster that the apps of Hilton, SPG and Marriott, though my grouse is that the points required for award nights aren't displayed prominently.

You can download the IHG app by heading to this page and providing your mobile phone number.


You will then receive a text message with a link, from where you can download the app - with a choice of iOS or Android.

As I mentioned earlier, 1,000 points isn't quite useful on its own, but helps in the overall scheme of things, particularly if you don't belong to the land of spectacular credit card sign-up bonuses!

I checked out of the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile yesterday morning, and checked into the Le Meridien Etoile, just around the corner from the Hyatt, in the evening after a day's sightseeing. Hyatt was kind enough to hold my bags for the duration of the day (which is a surprise in today's world of terror threats), and I'm grateful to them for that. Hotel review: Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium

As part of my recent business visit to Singapore, I spent an extra night there just so I could catch up with friends, some of whom I haven't met in over a decade. And because I needed one more stay to qualify for the bonus under IHG's Accelerate 2016 promotion , and also simultaneously earn a few more IHG Rewards Club bonus points under the Book Direct promotion, I decided I was going to spend the extra night at an IHG hotel. Luckily for me, just hours before my flight to Singapore, I was able to get a rate of SG$150++ a night, which is a fantastic rate for Singapore, especially for a booking as late as mine was. Hello from Paris, where my business-and-vacation trip is coming to a close. Vinay is in KUL on work, an Sam has been largely incommunicado.
