Hilton HHonors Diamond status matches till March 2018 - off and back on again (and what about re-matching?)

After Marriott made its first announcement to acquire Starwood in November last year, in a bid to possibly drive loyalty away from the Marriott-Starwood combine, Hilton and Hyatt both offered status matches in their HHonors and Gold Passport programs, some valid even till March 2017. Hilton then moved this process online, and recently, further extended these to March 2018. That status match page disappeared a couple of days ago, but is back in action nowHilton HHonors' online status match is back.

Here's how you can have a stab at elite status with Hilton HHonors up to March 2018.

To apply for the status match, head to the landing page here. You will see the following form, that needs to be completed.

In addition to your membership information with Hilton HHonors, you are also required to provide them with information on:
  • which program's status you want them to match, and your status with that program
  • proof of status
  • proof of stays within the last 12 months with such other program.

Acceptable forms of status validation include a screenshot of your current account status or your membership card. Acceptable forms of stay validation include a screenshot of your previous reservations or hotel receipt, redacting any personal information other than your name and membership number. Hilton accepts .jpg files only. Do not send any personal information (including your phone number, address, social security number, date of birth, user name, passwords, or credit card information).

New status in Hilton HHonors, if awarded, will be valid till March 2018 - nearly two years from now, so this is possibly a good time to apply for this status match.

Hilton Chennai

I was fortunate enough to be matched to HHonors Diamond through the first status-matching offer in November 2015, using my Hyatt Gold Passport Diamond status, which itself was obtained by matching my IHG Rewards Club Gold status. Yes, things were quite lenient at the time, and I wasn't even required to show proof of stays.

If I got upgraded status earlier, can I status match again now?

Great question, and the answer is, I don't know for sure. The terms and conditions don't seem to allow that. Nonetheless, this post by Frequent Miler suggests that it is possible to get re-matched. I've reached out to Hilton HHonors on Twitter, but haven't heard back from them yet. But it is sure worth a shot.

Conclusion

Getting matched to Hilton HHonors Diamond is great, though not as great as Hyatt Gold Passport's Diamond status (which allows 4 suite upgrades a year, each for up to 1 week). Nonetheless, HHonors Gold is possibly the best mid-level elite status out there. In particular, I like the fact that even Gold members will receive complimentary breakfast at most Hilton HHonors hotels. You can find details of the benefits from Hilton HHonors Gold and Diamond status, here

Readers, what's been your experience with matching Hilton HHonors status? Have you tried to re-match status? If yes, what was the outcome?
