Get at least 10% off on BA from India to UK, USA, Canada, Europe, with select Citibank cards

British Airways is offering a discount of at least 10%, going up to 12%, on flights from India to the UK, USA, Canada and Europe. This discount is being offered by Citibank, in partnership with BA, and is valid for bookings by 30 June 2016, for travel till 31 December 2016. The discount is on the base fare; taxes remain unchanged.


The discount percentage depends on the fare class of your booking, as follows:
  • 12% savings on base fare in booking classes F (First), J/C/D (Business), W/E (Premium economy) and Y/B/H (Economy)
  • 10% savings on base fare in booking classes A (First), R/I (Business), T (Premium Economy) and K/M/L/V/S/N (Economy).

There's no discount on fare classes Q, O and G. The promotion is also not valid on codeshare flights.

You can access this offer only using this link. The T&Cs are here. Also remember, that this offer is available only for payments using certain specific Citibank cards, such as the Rewards card and Premier Miles credit card.

I tried out this offer for sample dates in July 2016, and I can clearly see the discount being applied. For instance, here's the result from a Matrix ITA search query that I ran.


As you can see, the total base fare is Rs 40,250. And below are the fares under this promotion.


If you compared the base fare of Rs 36,225 above, you'll find it is exactly 90% of the base fare under an undiscounted ticket.

Similar discounts are also available on other sectors that meet the offer terms and conditions

Conclusion

The discount on the MAA-LHR leg, of about Rs 4,000, is quite useful. And the additional effort of booking through the promotion's link isn't significantly higher, so I don't see a downside to this promotion.

I checked out of the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile yesterday morning, and checked into the Le Meridien Etoile, just around the corner from the Hyatt, in the evening after a day's sightseeing. Hyatt was kind enough to hold my bags for the duration of the day (which is a surprise in today's world of terror threats), and I'm grateful to them for that. Kolkata's new terminal, and what a relief! (And lots of pictures)

For the longest time, Kolkata (CCU) had pathetic terminals – both for domestic and international flights – and it was high time they did something about it. Now, the Airports Authority of India must be complimented on the new Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. The airport is really fresh, swanky, and actually makes the flying experience in and out of CCU a whole lot better. The new terminal is an integrated terminal for domestic and international flights, and set out in an wide “V” with unequal arms, the longer arm being the domestic side. The terminal building itself is at one end of the runway, and is to the right of the old terminal, when viewed from the city side (left from airside). Defunct airlines of India - Part 1

ASan and I met for lunch over the weekend. If you knew us personally, you'd know that we're both forever thirsty, if you get my meaning. You'd also know that there are always discussions around ideas for posts. Most of them are flights of fancy (pun intended!), and almost always unviable.
