Jet Airways to move Mumbai domestic operations to Terminal 2
Jet Airways will now move its domestic operations to Mumbai Terminal 2, following Air India which made the same move in September last year. The change will be effective 15 March 2016.
So, please save the date, folks. Starting 15 March 2016, you will need to head to Terminal 2 for your Jet Airways domestic flights as well.
Terminal 2 was conceived as an integrated terminal, such as the ones in Delhi's T3, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Bangalore. Those airports, however, have separate sections for domestic and international travel, although all are housed in the same structure. While Air India moved its domestic operations to Terminal 2 last year, Vistara always operated out of Terminal 2.
Flight 9W628 will be the the first Jet Airways domestic flight to use the new terminal, coming from Kolkata into Mumbai, which lands at 0010 hours. The first departure will be 9W484 from Mumbai to Kolkata, at 0200 hours.
Jet Airways will be operating out of check-in islands K, M and P, as follows:
- K: Economy class guests
- M: JP Platinum, Gold and Silver members
- P: First and Premiere (business) class guests
From the point of view of transiting Mumbai, this is an excellent move because of T2 being an integrated terminal, thereby reducing transit times to 75 minutes for domestic flights and 90 minutes for international connections (down from 120 minutes or more). As of now, I'm not sure about Jet Airways' specific lounge facilities, though I'm guessing that the CSIA lounge will be available for domestic passengers.
I've reviewed Terminal 2 twice before - once very briefly en route to Dubai, and once a little more in-depth, when I flew the domestic segment of an international flight out of the terminal. I love the expansive layout of Terminal 2, which is definitely not the claustrophobic environment that the old terminal has (had?).
In terms of local connectivity, there's always taxis available outside the terminal building, and the metro station is pretty close by, it seems. There are also a reasonable number of 5 star hotels nearby, including the awesome JW Marriott Sahar!
