IHG Rewards Club promo - 30,000 points for 3 stays

IHG Rewards Club has launched a promotion that is aimed at users to make them book directly with ihg.com as opposed to booking through OTAs. This is valid for members residing (or at least, having their registered residential address) in the Asia-Pacific, Middle East or Africa. Registration is required, and earns you 1,000 IHG Rewards Club points, followed by increasing level of points per stay thereafter. Three stays earn a further 29,000 points. Here's more.


Members may or may not have received an email about this promotion, but it is not targeted. I did not receive an email about this, but was able to register and successfully post a stay. The landing page for this promotion is supposedly this, but sometimes takes you to last year's promotion. All you need to do is to have an IHG Rewards Club account, and register here.

You could also potentially combine this with IHG's Accelerate 2016, depending on what your offer is under that promotion.

Registration alone earns 1,000 points. As per the terms of this offer, and as he image above indicates,

  • the first stay earns 5,000 points, 
  • second stay a further 9,000 points, and 
  • the third stay, 15,000 points, 
making it a total of 30,000 points for registration + 3 stays.

The stays need to be completed by 15 September 2016. The promotion is valid only for stays at participating hotels of InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Staybridge Suites hotels and resorts across Asia Pacific (excluding China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan), Middle East and Africa.

I had a stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Hyderabad, a few days back, and because I was busy with work and travel, I happened to register for this promotion after my stay there. The points have nonetheless posted. I assume it will work as long as you register before the points post, but that's just a guess.


As with most (all?) hotel promotions, consecutive nights under different bookings constitute a single stay, so do be careful with that.
IHG's hotels are classified into 9 categories, with redemptions as follows:
  • Category 1 = 10,000 points
  • Category 2 = 15,000 points
  • Category 3 = 20,000 points
  • Category 4 = 25,000 points
  • Category 5 = 30,000 points
  • Category 6 = 35,000 points
  • Category 7 = 40,000 points
  • Category 8 = 45,000 points
  • Category 9 = 50,000 points

So, 30,000 points under this promotion will get you a night at a category 5, 4 or 3 hotel, or multiple nights at a category 2 or 1 hotel. IHG also periodically comes up with PointBreaks offers for specific hotels, with redemptions at a flat 5,000 points an award night, which can sometimes be awesome!

Conclusion

If you have IHG stays coming up, or are able to get 3 stays to work for you, then this is a great promotion for earning some IHG points rather quickly. In any case, even if you don't have any stays on the horizon, you should register nonetheless, as there's no downside to it. The issue with IHG is that they can take a long time to post stays, but I've never really had an issue with incorrect posting. So, in all, I think this is a great offer, especially when you can stack it with Accelerate 2016.

I checked out of the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile yesterday morning, and checked into the Le Meridien Etoile, just around the corner from the Hyatt, in the evening after a day's sightseeing. Kolkata's new terminal, and what a relief! (And lots of pictures)

For the longest time, Kolkata (CCU) had pathetic terminals – both for domestic and international flights – and it was high time they did something about it. Now, the Airports Authority of India must be complimented on the new Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. The airport is really fresh, swanky, and actually makes the flying experience in and out of CCU a whole lot better. The new terminal is an integrated terminal for domestic and international flights, and set out in an wide “V” with unequal arms, the longer arm being the domestic side. The terminal building itself is at one end of the runway, and is to the right of the old terminal, when viewed from the city side (left from airside). Defunct airlines of India - Part 1

ASan and I met for lunch over the weekend. If you knew us personally, you'd know that we're both forever thirsty, if you get my meaning.
