Ritz-Carlton Bangalore first anniversary offer

Reader Varun pointed out to me, a promotion that the Ritz-Carlton in Bangalore is running to celebrate their first anniversary.




They're offering a promotion for booking a room with them between now and 2 November 2014 - looks like even one night will do - that will get you a range of goodies and freebies. 

I've stayed at this hotel, and though it was only for a few hours, I rather liked the place. Which is possibly why I find this to be a pretty decent deal, if you are OK with shelling out Rs 11,000++ a night. But...

...there is actually a different set of benefits for the same price of Rs 11,000++ a night! So please check out both before you decide which one you book. Here's the low-down.

For comparability, I attempted a one-night booking for check-in on 31 October 2014 and check-out on 1 November 2014.

Option 1 - the Ritz-Carlton promo as above

The rate rules are:
  • Anniversary Special, which includes 
    • Complimentary buffet breakfast 
    • WiFi for two guests
    • A bottle of sparkling wine
    • 30 minutes spa massage for two guests
    • INR1000 Food and Beverage credit per stay
    • Children below 12 years stay for free
    • Guaranteed upgrade to next room category
    • Early check in at 1000 hours or late check out at 1800 hours
  • You may cancel your reservation for no charge until 6:00 PM hotel time on October 30, 2014. Please note that we will assess a fee of 13,136.20 INR if you must cancel after this deadline.

The inclusions are different here:

As an aside, the rate rules also display 

Booking dates 1st May till 30th June, 2014
Stay dates 01st May till 30th September

which to me is clearly bunkum and obsolete text, considering the booking I'm being allowed to make on the website! So I'm not inclined to take this bit on booking and stay dates, too seriously. However, the terms, benefits and rate rules vary for stays on Fridays/ Saturdays/ Sundays, and for other days, so please keep that in mind.

Conclusion
It is clear that for the same price, the two rates offer different benefits. The most important differences are:
  • Anniversary rate gets you a bottle of wine (not sure which one or how good that'll be)
  • Anniversary rate gets you a 30 min massage for two, while the other rate has a Rs 1500 spa credit (more variety, I suppose)
  • The other rate gets you 2000 bonus points which the Anniversary rate doesn't. Note that these are Ritz-Carlton points and not Marriott Rewards points.
I don't believe the dinner v/s Rs 1000 F&B credit should make much of a difference, but YMMV. Does this Anniversary promo interest you enough to make a booking?

I checked out of the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile yesterday morning, and checked into the Le Meridien Etoile, just around the corner from the Hyatt, in the evening after a day's sightseeing. Defunct airlines of India - Part 1

ASan and I met for lunch over the weekend. If you knew us personally, you'd know that we're both forever thirsty, if you get my meaning. Kolkata's new terminal, and what a relief! (And lots of pictures)

For the longest time, Kolkata (CCU) had pathetic terminals – both for domestic and international flights – and it was high time they did something about it. Now, the Airports Authority of India must be complimented on the new Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. The airport is really fresh, swanky, and actually makes the flying experience in and out of CCU a whole lot better. The new terminal is an integrated terminal for domestic and international flights, and set out in an wide “V” with unequal arms, the longer arm being the domestic side. The terminal building itself is at one end of the runway, and is to the right of the old terminal, when viewed from the city side (left from airside). This picture, courtesy Wikipedia, shows it quite clearly. I flew in on SG 323 ( trip report here ), and on reaching CCU, we parked at the apron, though sufficient aerobridges appeared available.
