Netherlands vs Holland, 40 tourist scams, hotel wifi and low cost airports

It has been a rather interesting week, though a tiring one. On the personal travel front, I was away for 3 days in 3 cities, and in what is beginning to be par for the course, included a very short stay at the JW Marriott Bangalore that I'll write about soon. It has also been an interesting week on the general travel front - one fare sale, then another. Both of these are live at the moment, so do consider them if you want to. And of course, there's the big news about (positive) changes to the JP program.

And then there are some interesting pieces that I though were worth sharing:
  • It seems that I've been remiss is using "Holland" and "The Netherlands" interchangeably. While I did know that there was some difference, I've never had it put across as wittily as this video does.

  • Just The Flight has this truly awesome infographic on tourist scams to avoid. Definitely worth a read, especially if you have some travels coming up. I can't say I've never been targeted by one or more of these, and some of them are quite widespread. If nothing else, you're warned!
  • HotelWifiTest is a pretty nifty site that provides information on how good hotel wifi is, based on actual testing of hotel wifi, for several hotels in various countries and cities, including many Indian cities. Sadly, the information for a lot of the Indian hotels is not based on actual testing but on estimation. Hopefully users will add their experiences, which will help other users. You can do that too, after you signup here.
  • Not too long back, someone said, that in India there were no low-cost airlines, only low-fare ones. Some of that might change with the proposal to bring in low-cost airports with nothing but the very basic amenities. Clearly this is aimed at inclusive rather than exclusive aviation, because there certainly won't be any lounges here!

Did you get to read anything else useful or interesting? Do share, if you did.

Have a great weekend!
