Update on Etihad Guest Gold status match offer
This one just doesn't seem to die down. Before I proceed, here's a quick recap.
In February this year, Etihad offered a status match to Gold level in its Etihad Guest program, based on gold status with any other airline. Soon after I wrote about this, Etihadbacktracked updated the offer to restrict it to UAE residents only, though by that time there were several folks that had applied for this status match.
I didn't expect much to come out of this, though I've been checking for updates every couple of weeks or so. The last I checked, which was Sunday last week, my account had not been upgraded to Gold. However, something seems to have changed in the last one week, and now I find myself having Gold status on Etihad Guest's program!
The member benefits on the Etihad Guest program can be found here, and are summarised below:
The numbers you see at the end of the rows in the first column, are footnotes, which can be found on the program benefits page.
So it seems that Etihad is indeed granting status matches under this promotion. If you did apply for this status match, now might be a good time to login to the program page and check.
I fly a lot with Jet, and less than a lot with Air India, and I'd like to keep my miles with those two programs (JP and Flying Returns) because of the relative benefits. I also keep a stack of miles with Citibank Premier Miles. So I can't see myself using the Gold status much, in spite of the Jet-Etihad combine. But then again, Etihad Guest isn't a program I've evaluated in detail, and I may well change my mind soon. But status is status, and if nothing else, it might come in handy to use in the context of another status match.
