SPG promotion for 2000 bonus, plus possibly stackable SPG deals

Starwood is celebrating its new partnership with Virgin Australia's Velocity program, by offering 2,000 bonus points on stays of 2 or more eligible nights at any participating property in APAC. You will need to book before 31 March 2014, and stay before 17 May 2014, for this offer. There's a max of 6,000 bonus points that one can earn during this period, so if you do have some stays coming up, you may want to strategise.

Here's why you should strategise, because it gets better.

  • This deal can be stacked with the SPG "Bring on the nights" offer, which I wrote about here and here. This requires registration before 28 February 2014, which earns 2,500 bonus points for every 5 eligible nights stayed between 5 January and 30 April 2014. This is capped at 10k points, or 20 eligible nights. There's also an additional 5,000 points when you hit 25 stays. Register here.



Wait.
  • If you don't already have Gold or higher status with SPG, you may want to register for this offer, for upgrade to SPG Gold after just one stay in Asia Pacific, when the stay is paid for using a World MasterCard. Gold status will be valid till July 2015. I've used this promo successfully.


Hang on, I'm not done yet.

There are two more offers that may be potentially stackable with the three above. However, I don't believe you can stack these two (that follow below) themselves.


  • There's a 3-for-2 offer for stays in Asia-Pacific - stay for 3 nights, pay for 2. I've used this successfully last year, as have a couple of people who have reported back on their success stories earlier this year. This is valid for stays till 14 March 2014. 





Given that most of these deals are for stays till some time in March 2014, the timing of this new offer for 2000 bonus points seems a brilliant idea. When the Bring on the Nights promo was announced, I'd written that this doesn't inspire me much. But if you look at it as stackable deals, this is a great shot at a good bunch of SPG points.

I checked out of the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile yesterday morning, and checked into the Le Meridien Etoile, just around the corner from the Hyatt, in the evening after a day's sightseeing. Hotel review: Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium

As part of my recent business visit to Singapore, I spent an extra night there just so I could catch up with friends, some of whom I haven't met in over a decade. And because I needed one more stay to qualify for the bonus under IHG's Accelerate 2016 promotion , and also simultaneously earn a few more IHG Rewards Club bonus points under the Book Direct promotion, I decided I was going to spend the extra night at an IHG hotel. Luckily for me, just hours before my flight to Singapore, I was able to get a rate of SG$150++ a night, which is a fantastic rate for Singapore, especially for a booking as late as mine was. Hello from Paris, where my business-and-vacation trip is coming to a close. Vinay is in KUL on work, an Sam has been largely incommunicado.
