Etihad Guest Gold status match offer till 22 Feb 2014
Etihad is currently offering a complimentary status match to your Gold status on any (that's right, ANY) airline.
All you need is an Etihad Guest account, copy of your membership card showing gold status with any airline and your account statement with that program, to be submitted to Etihad by email before 22 February 2014. This complimentary status match that will be valid till 2016 (end?). On their landing page for this offer, Etihad explains why they're doing this. They claim that once you experience the program, no other program will do. I've never flown Etihad but from all accounts I believe that claim is close to the truth.
This status will be good to have for many reasons. One, the privileges you get if you fly Etihad, irrespective of class. See below - these are a handful.
Also, you will be eligible for double or triple miles in business/first class respectively, for a limited period after the status upgrade. Next, Etihad has equity stakes in several airline programs, and if you're loyal to those programs, this status could help. Thirdly, the ability to use this to status match to other programs that may offer good status, is quite compelling. Finally, my view has always been, that any status is good status.
The terms and conditions are as follows:
Offer is valid for applications received until 22 February 2014. Only applications received will all the required documents will be considered. Applications received with illegible scans of documents will not be considered. You will receive a confirmation mail informing the status of your application within one month of your application. This offer is also open to existing members of Etihad Guest. For existing Etihad Guest members, your current Etihad Guest Miles will be carried forward at the time of upgrade. Selection of members for tier upgrade is completely the discretion of Etihad Guest.
From the above, it is not clear if this is is a free for all offer (subject to the documentation needed), or if there is going to be some discretion by Etihad. I remember that some months back, Etihad ran a promotion giving away 500 complimentary status matches to Gold on its program - this was a discretionary offer. I was unsuccessful then. I hope to have better luck now. But do report your success stories.
