The Maharajah's new clothes
Or should I say, the Maharani's new clothes?
In-flight Executives (aka air hostesses) on Air India flights seem to be poised for a makeover in their cabin crew uniforms. While colour schemes have varied over the years, the sari has been the one fixture as far as female cabin crew uniforms go. The current uniform is a black and red outfit, but a sari nonetheless. Jet also did some experimentation with this, up until their own "branded" line of crew uniforms was introduced a few years ago.
What you get to see now on AI is this:
But according to a recent report, Kurtis/Churidars as well as Trousers may be options available to the cabin crew, after AI tied up with the National Institute of Fashion Technology to design new uniforms for cabin and ground staff. I personally like the option for crew to wear something more contemporary, particularly on international and long-haul flights. There are also specific routes where some of the pax can get a little frisky, and so an option like this may really help.
This seems to be largely in keeping with the rest of AI's turnaround plans, though in this case I think they seem to have taken the term "makeover" a little more literally! Nonetheless, a welcome change that I'm looking forward to seeing.
Whats' your take on the new uniform ideas?
