AI offers flight-tracking in real time

Move over FlightAware and the likes of you!!! Just kidding of course, but that may well be partially true, now that Air India has launched its own version of a flight tracker, to provide real time flight status update along with a visual (map) interface to show the current location of the flight.

You can access this on AI's home page, under Travel Info, [updated] or just click here.



This opens up a new window, with a base map and an input field for the flight number:



Hit "Search" and that's about it. Here are a couple of results - both of which seemed to be correct at the appropriate time. One was for a completed flight, and the other was in-progress.




However, when I cross-checked the second one with the results from Google, there we some differences, but I could live with those.


Conclusion

To my mind, this is a significant upping of its technology standards by Air India. What's of note, is that information availability by AI is increasing, which is very unusual for them given their rather abysmal levels of transparency in the past, particularly as regards flight schedules and timings. I guess the Star Alliance membership might be kicking some a$$ inside AI, but as long as there are positive outcomes, who's complaining?

I checked out of the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile yesterday morning, and checked into the Le Meridien Etoile, just around the corner from the Hyatt, in the evening after a day's sightseeing. Hyatt was kind enough to hold my bags for the duration of the day (which is a surprise in today's world of terror threats), and I'm grateful to them for that. The Le Meridien has standard and chic rooms as two of their base category rooms. As I mentioned in the introduction post, I booked a chic room on an award. Defunct airlines of India - Part 1

ASan and I met for lunch over the weekend. If you knew us personally, you'd know that we're both forever thirsty, if you get my meaning. Kolkata's new terminal, and what a relief! (And lots of pictures)

For the longest time, Kolkata (CCU) had pathetic terminals – both for domestic and international flights – and it was high time they did something about it. Now, the Airports Authority of India must be complimented on the new Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. The airport is really fresh, swanky, and actually makes the flying experience in and out of CCU a whole lot better. The new terminal is an integrated terminal for domestic and international flights, and set out in an wide “V” with unequal arms, the longer arm being the domestic side. The terminal building itself is at one end of the runway, and is to the right of the old terminal, when viewed from the city side (left from airside).
