Details of Hyatt's next promotion (and registration link)
Hyatt's next promotion, for stays from 1 September to 30 November 2016, is now open. And it is called More Points, More Play. If that phrase sounds sounds vaguely familiar, that's probably because you've heard of Stay More, Play More, which was Hyatt's promotion for April to June 2016. And the similarity doesn't stop there. Read on for more, and how you can earn up to 3,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points per night during the promotion period.
As I've said above, this promotion is pretty much identical to the Spring / Summer promotion. So the bonus points are earned in steps, after completing a determined number of stays, as follows:
| Stay | Earn | Total Points Earned |
|---|---|---|
| 5 Nights | + 5,000 Points | = 5,000 |
| 10 Nights | + 10,000 Points | = 15,000 |
| 15 Nights | + 15,000 Points | = 30,000 |
| 20 Nights | + 20,000 Points | = 50,000 |
| 25 Nights | + 25,000 Points | = 75,000 |
So a total stay of 25 nights - something that Hyatt high-rollers can potentially look forward to - earns a total of 75,000 points, or 3,000 a night. There are no property exclusions, ie, all Hyatt hotels are participating in this promotion, which you can register for, here.
That means that at 3,000 points a night, you're earning the equivalent of Rs 3,180 (or approximately US$ 46) every night of stay. During our (unpublished) valuation exercise, we noted that an average room night at Hyatt's India hotels costs about Rs 7,800 including taxes, or roughly US$ 116 a night. So the earnings under this promotion represent nearly a 41% benefit on such rates, which is fantastic!
Crunching the numbers
While we haven't published any hotel points valuations after January 2016 (which didn't include Hyatt), we do have a value for Hyatt points - about Rs 1.06 each. In fact, some Hyatt properties in India can be booked for under Rs 5,000 a night (including taxes), which raises the value of the 3,000 points you earn, if you're earning them through stays at such low-priced hotels.
We at Miles & Even More aren't big on Hyatt (not that we don't like the program, but more because for some reason or other, our stays are usually with Hilton, Accor, SPG and Marriott). That said, there are some redemption opportunities in Hyatt that make points worth it.
Redeeming points from this promotion
Hyatt's hotels are divided into 7 categories, with the following redemption requirements:
| Hotel Category | Standard Room Points per Night | Regency/Grand Club Points per Night | Suite Points Per Night | Points + Cash Per Night |
| 5,000 | 7,000 | 8,000 | 2,500 + $50 USD | |
| 8,000 | 12,000 | 13,000 | 4,000 + $55 USD | |
| 12,000 | 17,000 | 20,000 | 6,000 + $75 USD | |
| 15,000 | 21,000 | 24,000 | 7,500 + $100 USD | |
| 20,000 | 27,000 | 32,000 | 10,000 + $125 USD | |
| 25,000 | 33,000 | 40,000 | 12,500 + $150 USD | |
| 30,000 | 39,000 | 48,000 | 15,000 + $300 USD |
So, 75,000 points earned under this promotion would easily get you 3 nights at a category 6 hotel such as the Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa! Or 5 nights at a category 4 hotel such as the Park Hyatt Goa Resort & Spa. You can check out the individual hotels under each category, here.
Bottom line
In all, this looks to be a very good promotion, particularly so if (unlike us) you're a Hyatt regular. But if you aren't one, no sweat...you can also check out one of these ongoing promotions by the other big chains:
Readers: What's your view on this Hyatt promotion? Do you think it is good enough to move some of your stays to Hyatt from other chains?
