What hath Jet Privilege wrought

A little over a couple of weeks ago, Jet Airways brought in Fare Choices, resulting in differential benefits based on the booking class of your ticket. As a consequence, various changes were also brought into the benefits from the Jet Privilege program, which affect the miles earned, tier points earned, lounge access, upgrading your ticket, etc. They even put out a pretty-looking graphic on the Fare Choices concept, like so.

What this graphic shows is what you'll get as benefits, for a given booking class. What it doesn't show, is what you won't, compared to earlier. So in the interest of our readers, we thought we'd set that right a little bit!

Read on to know more on what you won't be getting any longer, with Jet Airways and Jet Privilege.

Some of the biggest changes arising out of Fare Choices are:

  • Miles earned are now based on fare class - or put differently, how much you've paid for your ticket. That makes Jet Privilege more of a revenue-based program, much like where the industry seems to be headed.
  • Use of upgrade vouchers is restricted, depending on the nature of voucher and the elite status of the passenger using the voucher.
  • Benefits depend on whether your flight is within the Indian Sub-Continent (ISC) or an International flight outside of the ISC.
  • Additional free baggage allowances are reduced.
  • Overall, the lowest fare classes (W, O) don't accrue much benefits.

So, what exactly has changed?

Here we've summarised the changes, indicating what's worse than before (shaded red), what hasn't changed (beige), and what's better than before (green, and not too many of them). [You can click on the images below for a bigger, better view.]

Cheat sheet

Now, thanks to Omalware, our resident technology guru, we've also created a small tool - a cheat sheet, if you will - that will tell you exactly what benefits you'll get, based on your booking class and your Jet Privilege elite status. Click here to access the tool, and do make sure you bookmark that page for easy reference in future.

Readers: We hope you like the new tool we've created. Do let us have your feedback, comments, and thoughts in the comments below.
