A rather unusual offer for up to 130,000 Etihad Guest miles

I received this peculiar offer from Etihad in my mail a couple of days back, and I thought it was worth sharing, even if the target audience for this one could be rather limited (or am I out of touch with reality?). The offer is for either 80,000 or 130,000 Etihad Guest miles, if you sign up for one of two eligible subscriptions to The World's Finest Clubs. Here's more about this rather unusual offer...

For starters, I wasn't even aware of something called The World's Finest Clubs - not surprising, considering they commend themselves for having a 1,000+ members. However, they do boast of having over 200 clubs across 50 countries, and I've actually been to one of them - Exo, Mumbai!

It looks like they have now tied up with Etihad, to access Etihad's clientele (read Etihad Guest members' list!), to see if they can up their membership by a bit. There are 3 packages on offer, but only the Premium Private and Premium Partners memberships (Euro 159 and Euro 249 per month, respectively) get you Etihad Guest miles (80k and 130k, respectively). Here are the benefits for each type of membership.

I don't fancy myself paying Euro 3,000 (that's about Rs 230,000) solely for the privilege of earning 130,000 Etihad Guest miles, though some of you that do use these clubs more frequently, may find it a better deal, with all those benefits thrown in.

Bottom line

Per se, the miles alone work out to Rs 1.76 each. And while you can often get better value than that through redemptions (making such a purchase seem worth it), it is a rather expensive rate per mile, which could result in limited savings (unless you've got a fantastic value per mile redemption in the region of Rs 3 or more, on your mind). And of course, if you're part of the rather limited target audience I think this promotion is aimed at, you may well have a use for the club memberships in addition to the miles, in which case this might well be up your alley!

Readers: What's your take on this rather strange promotion? For someone who doesn't get to nightclubs all that often (and certainly not the ones belonging to the World's Finest Clubs), what advise would you give in terms of signing up for this deal (clubs perspective, not miles)? Worth it?
