2 billion JP miles for an Award Ticket??? And some crazy math to boot!
You just can't make this stuff up.
Would you believe the cost of the award ticket is...2.1 billion JP miles?
Vinay and I were thinking of trying out First Class on Jet Airways Mumbai to Amsterdam, once they change the configuration from the A330 they're currently flying, to the B777 (the change is expected to take effect from 30 October 2016). So we were looking for award ticket availability, when we found this gem.
Yeah...according to Jet Airways' website, it requires 2.1 billion JP miles - yeah, you read that correctly - for a one-way award ticket on the BOM-AMS route in first class.
That's 2,147,483,648 miles one way, or 4.2 billion miles for a round-trip ticket.
What a shame, there's only 1 award seat available ;-)
Clearly, this is some sort of system error - at least, that's what it should logically be. Unless JP has devalued a little bit more than I'd have thought!
Relatively speaking, it costs only 2.3 million EtihadGuest miles for a one-way redemption on The Residence on Etihad's A380 service from Abu Dhabi to London, which is otherwise the most expensive redemption available (other than for space travel, I guess). And it seats 2 people.
Oh, but that's not all
We actually tried ticketing the 1 available seat. Sorry, it isn't 2.1 billion miles required, it is actually MINUS 2 miles. Basically, Jet will give me 2 miles to book this award ticket.
Oh no...sorry, we screwed up. It is indeed 2.1 billion miles, but that's for a round trip, not one-way.
This even makes Dr Evil look quite reasonable.
Either there's some system fault that Jet needs to correct quickly, or someone at the airline is smoking something really exotic.
This appears to be a database issue/bug by the folks that work on Jet's IT infrastructure.
ReplyDeleteThe number you've shared (2,147,483,648) is equal to 2 raised to the power 31, which is the largest value that can be stored in a database if the column is configured to be a signed integer (databases can store larger values if they are configured in alternate ways).
