Qatar's business class sale ex-India and ex-Colombo ends 9/10 June

Qatar Airways is running a rather under-advertised sale in business class, for various destinations in Europe and the US, from India and Colombo. These are valid for bookings by 9 June 2016 for travel by 30 November 2016 (ex-India); and bookings by 10 June 2016 for travel by 15 December 2016 (ex-Colombo). Here's more.

This isn't a Ramadan offer, but largely coincides with the actual Ramadan offer in other jurisdictions (including ex-Colombo).


Discounts go up to 30% ex-India. Here are some of the fares per person, for select routes:

ex-Colombo sale

I mention Colombo (CMB) only because it is generally a origin hotspot for various low-fare sectors. For instance, we found some good rates ex-CMB to Australia on Malaysia Airlines recently.

The Ramadan special sale ex-CMB is a bit different. This is a 40% discount in business class but only when you book for a minimum of 2 people (companion offer). All passengers will need to be ticketed together and fly all routes together.

Here are the indicative prices in LKR (1 LKR is about Rs 0.46, so you can conveniently assume half the numerical amounts below to be the corresponding INR prices). However, if you aren't already from CMB, do factor in the cost of positioning from your home location to CMB, before you consider these offers.

Conclusion 

While these fares aren't mileage-run worthy, some of these fares are absolutely great, if you're looking for a good deal. You can also experience the Al Mourjan lounge in Doha, which I've heard a lot of good stuff about, when traveling business class.

I checked out of the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile yesterday morning, and checked into the Le Meridien Etoile, just around the corner from the Hyatt, in the evening after a day's sightseeing. Hyatt was kind enough to hold my bags for the duration of the day (which is a surprise in today's world of terror threats), and I'm grateful to them for that. Kolkata's new terminal, and what a relief! (And lots of pictures)

For the longest time, Kolkata (CCU) had pathetic terminals – both for domestic and international flights – and it was high time they did something about it. Now, the Airports Authority of India must be complimented on the new Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. The airport is really fresh, swanky, and actually makes the flying experience in and out of CCU a whole lot better. The new terminal is an integrated terminal for domestic and international flights, and set out in an wide “V” with unequal arms, the longer arm being the domestic side. The terminal building itself is at one end of the runway, and is to the right of the old terminal, when viewed from the city side (left from airside). Defunct airlines of India - Part 1

ASan and I met for lunch over the weekend. If you knew us personally, you'd know that we're both forever thirsty, if you get my meaning. You'd also know that there are always discussions around ideas for posts. Most of them are flights of fancy (pun intended!), and almost always unviable.
