Hilton's Big World Sale offers up to 30% off globally

Close on the heels of IHG's up to 35% off sale in Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa that we wrote about yesterday, Hilton has just announced their Big World Sale, with a discount of up to 30% in Europe, Middle East and Africa, and up to 25% in Asia Pacific and Americas. This includes a 5% additional discount for Hilton HHonors members. Here's more.


Discounts vary by the region of the hotel being booked, and whether or not you're a Hilton HHonors member. You can access this promotion here. Here are the discounts by region and hotel type:


There are also specific requirements as to the booking dates, stay dates, etc, as follows:


Do note, that you will need to make payment in full at the time of booking. These are non-refundable, so you should book only if you're absolutely certain about your travel dates. Also, Asia Pacific excludes Hilton Colombo.

There isn't an available list of participating hotels. You can, however, search on the landing page to see which hotels are participating, in your city / country / region of search.

As an example, I tried the Hilton Shillim Estate Retreat & Spa, where the BAR is Rs 15,000. I was able to find rates of Rs 11,250 a night, which his a straight 25% off the BAR.


Overall, I think this sale offers fairly good savings across all participating hotels globally. Also, the sale period as well as stay period is quite long - stays in Asia Pacific and China are till the end of the year!

However, my only worry (personally) is with the rates being fully prepaid and non-refundable. Because of my schedules, my hotel bookings are usually done no more than 2-3 days out (and often, just the previous day), but that's just me.

I checked out of the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile yesterday morning, and checked into the Le Meridien Etoile, just around the corner from the Hyatt, in the evening after a day's sightseeing. Hyatt was kind enough to hold my bags for the duration of the day (which is a surprise in today's world of terror threats), and I'm grateful to them for that. Kolkata's new terminal, and what a relief! (And lots of pictures)

For the longest time, Kolkata (CCU) had pathetic terminals – both for domestic and international flights – and it was high time they did something about it. Now, the Airports Authority of India must be complimented on the new Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. The airport is really fresh, swanky, and actually makes the flying experience in and out of CCU a whole lot better. The new terminal is an integrated terminal for domestic and international flights, and set out in an wide “V” with unequal arms, the longer arm being the domestic side. The terminal building itself is at one end of the runway, and is to the right of the old terminal, when viewed from the city side (left from airside). Defunct airlines of India - Part 1

ASan and I met for lunch over the weekend. If you knew us personally, you'd know that we're both forever thirsty, if you get my meaning. You'd also know that there are always discussions around ideas for posts. Most of them are flights of fancy (pun intended!), and almost always unviable.
