Vistara's buy-one-get-one business class offer for weekend travel

Air Vistara launched a little over 18 months ago, has had trouble filling up its planes. The DGCA's February 2016 data shows them at a capacity utilisation of 73.9%, lower than January's 74.8%, both of which were the lowest across all India-based airlines. Vistara offers a full-service experience, the low loads may be because of the limited routes they offer, most of which (read DEL-BOM return) are saturated in terms of capacity utilisation.

Which most likely explains the rationale behind Vistara's 2-for-1 sale in business class, valid for bookings and travel by 15 May 2016. Read more about it here.

The offer is basically 2-for-1, or 50% off when you buy two business class tickets by 15 May 2016, for travel till that date. Essentially, if you buy one ticket, you pay the full price but can take someone else along with you. But the catch is that for you to avail of the offer, you need to book for 2 passengers. This offer is not available on GOI-DEL (and v/v) and GOI-BOM (and v/v) flights.

Here are the terms of the offer:
  • Book for 2 or more passengers under one Business class ticket and get 50% off. (This offer is only applicable to the maximum of 4 passengers booked under 1 Business Class PNR)
  • The offer is valid for Business Class tickets booked from 14 Apr'16 to 15 May’16 for travel from 16 Apr’16 – 15 May’ 16
  • This offer is applicable on one way & return travel in Business class during weekend (Saturday and Sunday only)
  • Fares are applicable for sale in India only.
  • This offer is valid on direct flights only.
  • This offer is not applicable on Delhi <> Goa and Mumbai <> Goa Flights.
  • This is a limited-inventory offer available on first-come-first-served basis. In case the seats under this offer are sold out, regular fares will appear.
  • This offer is not applicable on group bookings.
  • Fare rules subject to Vistara’s terms and conditions applicable to Business class and flexi fare family will apply.
  • Flight schedules and timings are subject to regulatory approvals and may be revised without advance notice. For detailed terms and conditions, log on to https://www.airvistara.com/trip/terms-and-conditions
  • Vistara reserves the right at any time, without prior notice, to add, alter, modify, change or vary all or any of these terms and conditions or to replace wholly or in part, the above offer by another offer, whether similar to above offer or not, or to withdraw it altogether.

Jet Airways also runs the Great Premiere Sale, offering discounts of up to 40% on several domestic routes. The original end-date for this promotion was 17 April 2016, though in view of Vistara's 2-for-1 offer that's been announced today, I fully expect Jet to extend the promotion period for the Great Premiere Sale, or at least offer something as competitive as Vistara.
