Earn up to 35,000 bonus air miles with Marriott's "You Can Fly" promotion

Earlier this month, Marriott launched You Can Fly, an offer for new members to the Marriott Rewards program, which earns members up to 35,000 bonus air miles in the program's of select partner airlines of Marriott. This is is over and above the base air miles earned. I don't think this promotion was publicised much (if at all), and so I couldn't write about this early. It is only by happenstance that I found this promotion myself.

Under this promotion, members earn the following bonus points over and above their base air miles earnings, for stays till 31 December 2016:
  • first 2 stays with Marriott - 1,500 miles per stay,
  • next 16 stays with Marriott - 2,000 miles per stay.

Naturally, this offer applies only to those members who have chosen to earn air miles instead of MR points. Unfortunately, Marriott does not allow double-dipping.

This promotion applies only to new members who've set up a Marriott Rewards account on or after 8 April 2016. You need to register for this promotion, here., and select the partner airline whose air miles you want to earn. You can earn miles with the following programs:
  • Air Canada Aeroplan
  • Asia Miles
  • British Airways Executive Club
  • Copa Airlines ConnectMiles
  • Emirates Skywards
  • Iberia Plus
  • Jet Airways Jet Privilege
  • MultiPlus
  • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
  • South African Airways Voyager

Jet Airways Business Class

The promotion also requires the first stay at a Marriott hotel to be within 90 days of registration. You can find the full T&Cs for this offer here, while I've set out some of the key ones below:
  • Existing Marriott Rewards members, and members electing to earn Marriott Rewards points are not eligible for this promotion.
  • Upon enrolment, registration for the promotion is automatic.
  • Stays made during the promotion period prior to enrolment are not eligible.
  • are not eligible for this promotion.
  • Nights spent while redeeming an award are eligible for Elite credit.
  • Allow 4 to 6 weeks after your stay is complete for bonus Miles to be posted to your airline/miles programme account.

The bonus of up to 35,000 miles is over and above the base air miles earnings, which is as follows:
  • 2 miles per US$ on all qualifying spends at: JW Marriott, Autograph Collection Hotels, Renaissance Hotels, Marriott Hotels, Delta Hotels, Marriott Vacation Club
  • 2 miles per US$ on room rates only at: The Ritz-Carlton, EDITION, Gaylord Hotels
  • 1 mile per US$ on room rates only at: Courtyard by Marriott, AC Hotels by Marriott, Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott, SpringHill Suites by Marriott, Residence Inn by Marriott, TownePlace Suites by Marriott, Marriott Executive Apartments, Moxy Hotels, Protea Hotels

Converting Marriott Rewards points into air miles

Since Marriott partners with several airlines, you can also convert Marriott Rewards points into air miles of those partner airline programs. See here for conversion rates, which in my view, are sub-optimal.

Conclusion

I'll be the first to admit that my knowledge of airline loyalty programs outside of India (with the exception of Etihad Guest) is next to nothing, so I won't make a comment yet on whether this is a worthy promotion. However, seeing as it is that Jet Airways Jet Privilege is one of the partners, I'll be writing a separate post soon, on what I think of this promotion in the context of earning JP miles.
