30% restaurant discounts + 5% cashback on Amex cards

We generally do not deal with dining out on this blog, focussed as it is on travel, hotels, airlines, points, miles and the like. However, some offers are too good to pass up, and who knows when you might need it, during your travels! Here's one such. American Express credit cards run a program called Dineout which offers great deals from time to time. This time around, it is a list of over 1200 restaurants in India that offer a discount of up to 30% plus a 5% cash back.


The offer is valid till 30 November 2016, and is open to American Express Cardmembers (except Platinum Charge and Centurion) whose accounts are valid and in good standing. The offer is not valid on American Express Corporate Cards.

The terms require that you make a table booking through the American Express Dining service at 1800 103 7926 (India), and the offer is not valid on walk-in dining. You can find the full T&Cs here.

Here's the list of restaurants for this offer, though the exact level of discount (going up to 30%) isn't specified. The cash-back is also capped at Rs 500 per transaction.

As a reminder, American Express also has the following promotions running in parallel, which earn bonus points:
  • Bonus points offers: Bonus points (Amex MR or co-branded card loyalty program) on spends at specified establishments.
  • Bonus points offers: 10 bonus points per Rs 100 spent at specified establishments. (31 July 2016)

A 30% discount is substantial enough for me to leave lethargy at home, go out, and head out to some of the participating restaurants that I've been meaning to try out for a while now!

    Hi,
    Is this offer applicable the Amex co-branded card of ICICI?
    The conditions say Amex card but does not specify the Bank.

    T&Cs say it applies to "American Express Card, issued by American Express Banking Corp. in India". If yours is issued by ICICI Bank, then it won't qualify for this offer.

    I called in to reserve a table in one of my favorite restaurants in Hyd, got a response that there is no discount offer available for that date & time, I tried shifting the date to a day before and after, no luck. Tried with a different restaurant. still no luck.
    The rep told me that I would still get the 5% cash back if I go ahead and reserve.

    I asked him for a list of the restaurants and the discount % they offer. He said nothing like that is published as these offers are updated by the restaurant itself and changes time to time. Oh well.

      That is ridiculous! This is a published deal, and looks like as always, their own employees are the last to know!!! Have you tried contacting Amex on social media and reporting the problem? That might help.

Hotel review: Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium

As part of my recent business visit to Singapore, I spent an extra night there just so I could catch up with friends, some of whom I haven't met in over a decade. And because I needed one more stay to qualify for the bonus under IHG's Accelerate 2016 promotion , and also simultaneously earn a few more IHG Rewards Club bonus points under the Book Direct promotion, I decided I was going to spend the extra night at an IHG hotel.
