Earn a free night with SPG after 3 nights with Design Hotels...twice

Only a couple of days ago, we wrote about Starwood now including most of the Design Hotels properties in India within their portfolio. There's an existing Starwood promotion that earns a free night stay at specified SPG hotels after 3 nights at participating Design Hotels. In this post, we explore the possibilities for India.

The promotion itself is for a free night's stay at any participating Starwood category 1-5 hotel, after 3 nights' stay at participating Design Hotels properties completed between 15 March 2016 and 31 May 2016 (the promotion period). This can be earned twice, so in theory, 6 nights' stay should make you eligible to receive 2 free nights. There are some nuances, though, which I thought might be useful to highlight:
  • The 3 nights' stay is actually for 3 nights, and not 3 stays. So technically, a single stay of 3 nights should qualify for the free night.
  • You need to register here for the promotion. Registration closes 15 May 2016, but you should register immediately as there is no downside to registration.
  • The six Design Hotels properties in India that we wrote about yesterday are participating in this promotion. These are The Park hotels at New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata, and the Anya Hotel in Gurgaon.
  • Bookings made before the promotion period, for stays during the promotion period, are eligible for this offer. The India hotels as above joined Starwood on 23 March 2016, so that's the start date that's counted for these hotels.
  • Bookings with Design Hotels has to be direct on the SPG Design Hotels website or at SPG's website. Also, it has to be only with participating hotels.
  • The free night(s) stay will need to be at a participating Starwood Category 1-5 hotel, and should be consumed by 30 September 2016.
  • Award nights and cash-and-points stays do not qualify for this promotion.
  • It can take 2-4 weeks for the free night(s) to be credited, so do factor that in for redeeming the free night's stay. Members should call SPG customer service and mention Award ID D3HFN1–5 to redeem.
  • The promotion is stackable with other promotions, such as SPG's Take Two, valid for stays till 10 April 2016.

Here are the full T&Cs for this promotion.

Conclusion

If you have stays coming up during the promotion period at any of the participating Design Hotels, then this is a good time to register for this promotion. As I've said before, there's no downside to registering, and there is always the potential upside. Plus the fact that this offer can be combined with SPG's Take Two promotion means double points, and a free night after 3 stays with Design Hotels, which is pretty good, if you ask me.

  1. DO YOU THINK this is worth a mattress run if there are any international cat5 redemption in mind?

    1. I think it depends. Design hotels in India retail for between 3800 and 6300 a night as of now. Hyderabad is actually the lowest at 3800++. Le Meridien Mahabaleshwar (Cat 5) is retailing for about 9100++. At those prices, I'd rather pay for a night at LM than for 3 nights at the Park Hyderabad.

I'd think it depends how much your planned Cat 5 stay will cost. You should factor in the Starpoints you'll earn on the MR-ing stays as well, but that isn't likely to be much, TBH.

Have you got anything in mind that might work as a great hack? Let me know, I'll explore it further.
