Time to earn some Marriott Rewards points with very little effort
Back in the Indian summer of 2014, Marriott introduced the concept of social media rewards, meaning you earned Marriott Rewards points for liking certain Marriott related pages, or mentioning them on various social media such as Twitter, Facebook, etc. However, after a couple of months, they discontinued the awarding of 250 MR points for liking Facebook pages, and gave out rewards only for specific types of posts. Marriott tried repeating this approach in 2015, but I think that one fizzled out a bit.
Marriott is once again offering MR points for tweets, and has added Instagram this time round, in connection with the RedFest music festival in Dubai. Basically all you have to do is connect your Twitter and Instagram accounts with your Marriott Rewards account here.
Once you've connected, you should see a confirmation screen like the one below. Feel free to change your preferences, but note that at all times, at least one social media connection should exist.
You're now all set to earn MR points. Start tweeting using both the hashtags #MRPoints and #MRRedFest. Rinse and repeat 10x times a day.
Each tweet earns you 25 points, which means 250 points a day. Similarly, each Instagram post with those two hashtags should earn you a further 250 points a day (at least, that's the theory, though the overall earning may be capped at 250 points total, instead of 500). In addition, you get 25 MR points each for following Marriott Rewards and Gaylord Hotels on Twitter and Instagram. My points have already started posting, and there are Twitter notifications as well, that confirm this.
Conclusion
I agree that 25 points may not be much, particularly if this offer is valid only for this weekend when RedFest takes place. That said, it is a cheap and easy way to earn some extra points. During the similar promotion in 2014, I earned close to 12,000 MR points - enough for one night's award stay at a Category 1 or 2 hotel, or two nights in a Category 1 hotel when booked under PointSavers. Plus any points are good points, in my book. That said, I don't use my personal or the blog's Twitter or Instagram account for such promotions, but a separate handle, so that I don't weird out those that follow me!
