New year wishes, thank you, and some thoughts on the blog in for 2016

Firstly, here's wishing all our readers a very happy new year! May 2016 fulfill more of your travel wishes, and may it in turn be filled with lots of points, miles, smiles and happiness for you and your families!


In the last 2 and a half years, we've grown from an extremely moderate readership base, to one where our daily site visits now are almost double of the monthly site visits when we started! None of that could have happened without your readership, support, comments and questions. So, thank you, readers, for all of that! We look forward to even more interactions in 2016 and the future.

Regular readers of MAEM will know that, for a variety of reasons, we almost wrapped up the blog in 2015. Now that we're back with a minor bang of sorts, we thought we'd take things in a bit more streamlined way in 2016. Here's what we're thinking of. In order to get information to you on a timely and relevant basis, there will more structured posts on routine stuff like offers, deals and promotions. We at MAEM have been contemplating valuation of points and miles for a very long time now. Hopefully, some of that will see the light of day. We will also revisit the Indian view on hotel loyalty programs that was last done over 18 months ago.

We have also been planning some broader changes to the look and feel of the blog. We've tinkered with a little bit with of it already, and there's more testing and sand-boxing that's been happening these last few months. That's another goal for 2016. We may also move to a new home, but now is probably too premature for that talk. Most important of all, we will continue to listen to you readers, and provide you with useful, relevant content. 

So, our best wishes to each and every one of you, for a great year ahead. Do continue to keep writing in. We love hearing from you on what you liked, didn't like, what you'd like to read more on, and even just general chit-chat! I checked out of the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile yesterday morning, and checked into the Le Meridien Etoile, just around the corner from the Hyatt, in the evening after a day's sightseeing. Hyatt was kind enough to hold my bags for the duration of the day (which is a surprise in today's world of terror threats), and I'm grateful to them for that. The Le Meridien has standard and chic rooms as two of their base category rooms. As I mentioned in the introduction post, I booked a chic room on an award. Hotel review: Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium

As part of my recent business visit to Singapore, I spent an extra night there just so I could catch up with friends, some of whom I haven't met in over a decade. And because I needed one more stay to qualify for the bonus under IHG's Accelerate 2016 promotion , and also simultaneously earn a few more IHG Rewards Club bonus points under the Book Direct promotion, I decided I was going to spend the extra night at an IHG hotel. Luckily for me, just hours before my flight to Singapore, I was able to get a rate of SG$150++ a night, which is a fantastic rate for Singapore, especially for a booking as late as mine was. However, I had received mixed reviews when I sought inputs from my Singapore-based friends, and so I decided that I would have a dekko at this myself. Hello from Paris, where my business-and-vacation trip is coming to a close. Vinay is in KUL on work, an Sam has been largely incommunicado.
