Renaissance Mumbai Executive Lounge review
I’d stayed at the Renaissance Mumbai in early 2014, and as I recall, that stay wasn’t exactly spectacular. Also, for reasons of logistics, wasn’t able to try out the executive lounge that I was otherwise allowed to use. So when an opportunity presented itself a few weeks back at the Renaissance Mumbai – for a rate that included a mini-suite plus a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine, for an extra cost of only Rs 500 on the normal room rate – I booked it right away. While I’ll be reviewing the hotel room separately, this post deals only with the executive lounge, which is worth a visit any time.
After checking in, I walked towards the seating area. On the left, there was some food laid out – mostly breads, cold cuts, sautéed vegetables and some warm snacks.

Further ahead was the central bar with seating all around – both on barstools as well as separate tables.
The seating is varied – there are tables for groups of two, three and four, as well as seating areas for larger groups. I also recall there being a private room for about 12-15 guests, which could be booked in advance.

The view of the lake adjacent to the hotel was quite nice, looking out from the lounge patio.
To be honest, the bar offerings are quite limited, but they served the purpose. In fact, one of the guests in the lounge remarked to me how nice his wine was.
The lounge is attached to a business centre, which use is complimentary for lounge guests.
It is the largest lounge that I’ve ever been to, and the Marriott website touts this as the most spacious lounge in India. Which would mean that the lounge will be relatively quiet, most of the times, which is great.
I arrived at the hotel in the evening, say 7 pm, but for some reason, my room wasn’t ready yet. There was also a lot of folks at check-in, due to a convention that was taking place at the same time. So the duty manager suggested that I head to the executive lounge to check in and have a couple of drinks, in which time the room would be ready and my bags sent there, which sounded reasonable.
I had a friend join me for drinks (and they weren’t staying at the hotel), which the hotel graciously allowed. The lounge was virtually empty when I got there, so check in was a breeze. My only grouse was that the lounge could have been better lit, though the overall ambience wasn’t much affected by the rather low lighting.

They also had some cookies, and interestingly, tiffin boxes to take away stuff in (for those in a hurry, I suppose!).

There’s also a separate outdoor patio, which was excellent in view of the weather that evening.

In conclusion, I quite liked the lounge, and am looking forward to my next visit.
