Jet Airways is being generous with tier points, and how you can benefit

A couple of weeks back, Jet Airways announced a JP promotion for bonus miles and bonus flight counts. The bonus flight count part of the offer varied, but in general, you were (and still are till 22 December 2015) eligible to earn double flight count for each segment you travel (there's a cap on how many bonus flight counts you can earn). Today, there's another offer for earning flight counts, this time on redemption bookings!


Put simply, you earn flight counts even on award tickets, for redemptions made before 25 December 2015 and travel till 10 February 2016. All you have to do is register at this link:

Input your JP number in the space provided, and click on Register Now. Your registration for this promotion should be confirmed.


Here are the key T&Cs:
  • This offer is valid only upon Registering for the Offer and upon undertaking an Eligible Activity within the Promotion Period. 
  • This promotion can be availed only upon registering for the promotion between 11th December 2015 – 25th December 2015 (both days inclusive). Members who receive the email but do not register for the promotion will not be eligible to enjoy the offer. 
  • The Promotion Period is limited to award tickets booked between 11th December 2015 – 25th December 2015 (both days inclusive) for travel between 11th December 2015 - 10th February 2016 (both days inclusive). 
  • Eligible Activity is defined as Award Tickets booked on jetairways.com or jetprivilege.com for travel on any Jet Airways marketed and operated flights in any Cabin for a one-way or return travel across Domestic India or International sectors. 
  • Such members upon registering for the promotion will be eligible to earn a Bonus of 1 Tier Point for every Eligible Activity booked and travelled in the Promotion Period defined. 
  • Bonus Tier Point(s) will be awarded on a segment basis i.e 1 Bonus Tier Point for every Redemption segment. A Single journey on the same Jet Airways flight number will constitute 1 Segment. 
  • Example: A one-way DEL - BOM – GOI Award ticket will earn a total of 2 Bonus Tier Points during this promotion (i.e. 1 Bonus Tier Point for the DEL-BOM segment + 1 Bonus Tier Point for the BOM-GOI segment). 
  • Award tickets booked by a JetPrivilege member for travel by self or others will be eligible for the promotion. 
  • The Bonus Tier Point will be credit into the account of member redeeming his/ her JPMiles only after completion of the flight activity. Please allow 3-4 weeks for the Bonus Tier Point(s) to be credited in to your account. 
  • Other Terms & Conditions Apply. 

The great points about this promotion are:
  • You get 2x miles for each sector travelled, as long as each sector is a separate flight number. However if your flight automatically involves a stopover (2 or more segments but marketed as one flight number), that counts as ONE segment, and you'll only earn one bonus point.
  • You earn bonus tier points for award tickets booked for other passengers as well, though it is not clear if the JP member themselves need to also travel with the other passengers.
  • Promotion is available on domestic and international sectors.
  • There doesn't seem to be a limit on the number of bonus tier points you can earn under this promotion.

Be careful as to which flights you're selecting for your redemption. It has to be a Jet Airways operated and marketed flight, to earn bonus tier points. That means JP awards on partner airlines (including Etihad) don't count.

Analysis

This promotion is a great way to boost your flight count, particularly if you're in need of flight counts to retain or upgrade from your JP tier level. You can use this link to identify potential award destinations based on how many miles you have.

There are quite a few sectors where award tickets cost 5,000 JP miles. You can check out the full list of JP award sectors in this document. Plus the changes to the JP program last year and earlier in the year mean that your cash component of award tickets is now likely to be lower than before, so that's an added benefit.

Conclusion

This promotion reminds me of the one time that JP had a problem with its mileage engine (these are early days in the program), and I was credited miles for an an award ticket. This time of course, they're doling out the tier points intentionally. 

When Jet Airways announced major changes to its JP program earlier this year, there was enough talk about making the program better for JP members. Now I can see at least part of that talk being translated into action, and call me optimistic, but I'm looking forward to more such promotions!

50% off at Marriott in Thailand, for one night

Marriott is offering a 50% off for a single night, till 31 July 2014, in exchange for registering for / subscribing to their eNewsletter. I'm not sure what the connection is, but I think the fact that it is for a single night's stay may well be suggestive of promoting Thai tourism, if you know my meaning... But well...its there to be had. I know this isn't exactly an India-focussed deal, but I'm looking at another trip to BKK soon, and I think there could be others who might benefit from this. The 50% off is on the highest available rate. Bookings cannot be done online. Qatar, Etihad and Gulf Air fare sales - ending soon

Three of the Middle-East based airlines are currently running fare sales. While Qatar's and Etihad's sales end on 5 and 6 September 2016 respectively (yeah, in a couple of days), Gulf Air's sale has only just begun. Here is more info on these sales, from an ex-India perspective.
