Hotel review: JW Marriott Sahar Airport, Mumbai

A couple of weeks back, I had an opportunity to spend a night at the JW Marriott, that's located almost right outside Mumbai's Sahar International Airport (aka Terminal 2). This was one of two events that I attended as a speaker at a client's conference (the other one was at the Hilton Garden Inn, Gurgaon). Having arrived one day ahead of my scheduled talk, my client had graciously agreed to put me up for the night before. That meant that I could experience the hotel for a night; however, that also meant that I couldn't test out the hotel's restaurants, since meals were part of the conference, and I joined my client for all meals. So what follows is a hotel room review only.

My client had apparently negotiated a corporate rate, which meant I couldn't earn points on this stay. Nonetheless, the check-in agent was quite happy to update my room booking with my Marriott Rewards account particulars, and I was allowed all benefits of my MR Silver status (well, the only one I really needed was the complimentary internet).

I do apologise for the quality of some (most?) of the pictures. I didn't carry a decent camera, and these were taken in a hurry on my smartphone. Plus the lighting in the hallways was quite subdued.

I reached the hotel a little after lunchtime, and entered the wide, semi-circular lobby.

The lobby itself is a peaceful place to hang out. It is wide and airy, and very well lit, and there's a lot of seating in and around the lobby area, so it never ever feels too crowded.

Right after check-in, my bags were sent to my room, while I headed to the conference area to check out the goings-on and meet my client contact. I headed back to my room after that, for a quick nap.

I've seen hotel hallways and I've seen hotel hallways. There are ones like the Hilton Garden Inn and ITC Windsor Bangalore that are quite narrow, and the ones at the Westin Mumbai and Oberoi Kolkata that are reasonably wide. But this place has to rank as #1 when it comes to hallway width! Take a look...

A little later in the evening, I was at my desk working, when turn-down service came in and left more pralines for me!

And the biggest surprise of all...a representative from guest services came up to the room and offered me this, for being a "valuable" Marriott Rewards member. A handwritten note from the Guest Relations Head, along with a handmade papier mache jewelry box. It couldn't have cost a lot, but sometimes it is all about the thought, and I loved it!

The following morning, I woke up to slightly cloudy skies and a view from the room.

I finished my talk and checked out of the hotel.

As I mentioned earlier, I didn't try out the hotel restaurants, but did manage to try the F&B services at the convention centre that's located in the same premises. Overall, they have a lot of variety in their food offerings, which is great. However, food quality isn't particularly high, which was a bit of a disappointment. Other than that, a great stay and, most importantly, a great night's sleep!
