Sri Lankan sojurns (and discounted fares)

Commemorating its 36th anniversary, Sri Lankan Airlines are currently running a promotion which offers a 20% discount on Economy & Business Class tickets. A relatively new member to the One World crowd, Sri Lankan operate an all Airbus fleet with good connections to the sub-continent and onward via their hub in Colombo, to a bunch of key cities in the Middle East, Europe and East Asia.




A quick scan through of the promotion threw up some pretty reasonable fares ex – India to London. For a negligible amount, a quick night stop in Colombo can be factored into the booking as well for those flying in from other destinations. This might be a good time to snag some cheap tickets to the island nation. 

A snapshot of the deal is as follows:
  • Offer is valid for both Economy & Business class tickets purchased online at www.srilankan.com and on UL-operated 3 digit flights (All sectors)
  • Offer is valid for tickets purchased between 15th August and 24th August 2015 and for travel commencing and completing from the 1st September and 30th November 2015
  • Fares are already discounted (Excluding all surcharges and taxes)
  • This offer cannot be combined with any other existing offer
  • Date changes, no show and refunds are subject to penalties and fare differences
  • Standard terms and conditions and fare rules will continue to apply – please read the fare conditions online at the time of purchase as fare rules vary by ticket and destination
  • SriLankan Airlines Ltd reserves the right to withdraw all or any of the rules applicable to the above offers at any time at its sole discretion without prior notice

Interestingly as we were wrapping up this post, came in word of a Jet Airways offer of a flat 10% discount on all flights on the Mumbai-Colombo route, for tickets purchased between 18 and 31 August 2015, and travel on or after 18 August 2015. They currently run a double daily on this route. 


There are a few hitches to the deal, though:
  •  It has to be a round trip
  • The deal is applicable only on select booking class (more details are given below)
The full T&Cs are:

  • 10% discount is applicable on base fare in Première and Economy from Mumbai to Colombo on flights operated by Jet Airways
  • Applicable only on return journey

  • Child discount, date change, flight change and / or refund is permitted as per fare rule
  • Entire journey must be booked on the below mentioned booking classes
    • Première - P, Z and I

The only one’s now without an offer on the India – Sri lanka route would be Air India and time will tell if they throw down the gauntlet as well. They recently launched a Delhi – Colombo service and have been running a Chennai – Delhi service for a while now.

All in all, definitely a great time to take in a trip to Ceylon.

I checked out of the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile yesterday morning, and checked into the Le Meridien Etoile, just around the corner from the Hyatt, in the evening after a day's sightseeing. Hotel review: Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium

As part of my recent business visit to Singapore, I spent an extra night there just so I could catch up with friends, some of whom I haven't met in over a decade. And because I needed one more stay to qualify for the bonus under IHG's Accelerate 2016 promotion , and also simultaneously earn a few more IHG Rewards Club bonus points under the Book Direct promotion, I decided I was going to spend the extra night at an IHG hotel. Luckily for me, just hours before my flight to Singapore, I was able to get a rate of SG$150++ a night, which is a fantastic rate for Singapore, especially for a booking as late as mine was.
