IHG's "Accelerate" promotion for fall 2015 - minimum 50k points or up to 2 nights for new members

IHG has announced its promotion for fall of 2015, called Accelerate, valid for stays between 1 September and 31 December 2015.

As with previous IHG promotions (such as this and this), the promotion for existing members is based on various "goals" that need to be achieved, each of which carries a certain amount of bonus. And a further bonus if you complete a specified minimum number of "goals". Like this offer that I received:

Here's another offer for just 2,600 more points, but with 5 "goals". However, to my mind, this seems easier to achieve, from an India point of view.

For new members, the promotion is a free night's stay (max 2 free nights) for every 2 nights' paid stay. This promotion for new members applies only if you join the program now.

Registration for the promotion, or signing up for the program as a new member under this promotion, can be done here. Each "goal" has its own terms and conditions which you must be aware of, and the entire promotion's T&Cs are here.

From an India perspective, you can find a list of all the IHG hotels in India here, and their newer India hotels list, here.

Strategies

I'm evaluating my options under this promotion. I'm currently sitting on just over 120k IHG Rewards points, which I expect to use pretty soon, and I don't think I'll need any more points under this promotion. Also, I'll have to look really hard to find a Holiday Inn Resort or a Club Vacations property (there isn't one in India), which makes earning the final achievement bonus even harder. On the other hand, a night's free stay after 2 stays will come in really handy. And that, twice over, is even better!

So if points are not what you're after, you could consider signing up for a new account under this promotion, and earn the free nights instead. However, be warned that IHG does come down quite hard on cases of multiple accounts, often cancelling both accounts, or even permanently banning the individual from membership into the program. (That's where travel companions without an IHG account can help!)

Comments

  1. Check in on day x and check out on x+1 is definitely a stay. However, if you
    a. check in on day x and check out on x+1
    b. again check in on x+1 on a separate booking and then check out on x+2,

then that's considered ONE stay and not two.

  2. Sadly, award nights don't qualify. You'll have to make it a paid stay.
