Free wifi for all guests at Marriott hotels starting January 2015

Starting 15 January 2015, all Marriott Rewards members will be entitled to free wifi.



This is super stuff, because currently, only Marriott Rewards Platinum and Gold members get free wifi, although some brands and some specific hotels do offer free wifi even now, to all members, and sometimes to all guests irrespective of membership or status.

In addition, Platinum and Gold members will get free enhanced Wi-Fi where available. This premium service is perfect for downloading large files faster or streaming movies, according to Marriott. There will, however, be some non-participating hotels and brands.

From an Indian point of view, there are no excluded brands or properties, which is great. I’ve said before that Marriott Rewards is possibly the best loyalty program in India, and this new entitlement for free wifi to all members only enhances that reputation.

Update on Marriott promo for social media interactions

A couple of months back, Marriott announced Marriott Rewards Plus, a promotion that offered Marriott Rewards points for social media interactions . You could earn points quite easily by: joining the promotion sharing or retweeting Marriott's posts to your Facebook or Twitter feeds each day checking into properties on Facebook or Foursquare every day you visit posting a photo each day to Instagram and tagging it with a property’s location using #LoveMarriottRewards, #RenHotels or #Autograph in your daily Facebook, Twitter and Instagram posts liking and following select brands and properties in Facebook or Twitter You could earn a maximum of 2,000 points every 30 days till November 2014, making it a total of 12,000 points virtually free. But a lot of that has changed, suddenly and quite drastically. Smoking areas at Indian airports

I know its a dirty habit, but it has been around for nearly 7000 years! Granted, aviation is only a little over a 100 years old, but there always will be smokers. So here’s a low-down on smoking rules and areas in some airports: New Delhi  Terminal 1D (Domestic): Available, after security. Go to the food court on the first floor. The smoking room has been relocated to the ground level (all boarding gates) and is near the crew security area opposite Gate 13. Terminal 3 (Domestic): Available, after security. There’s one on the first floor – between the eateries and the lounges, one on the left just before the ramp towards the gates (at the end of the food stalls), and one behind the flight display screens between the left and right concourses.
