Buy HHonors points and get up to 40% more (targeted)

Hilton is offering a targeted promotion of up to 40% extra points, for buying or gifting points. The base points are priced at $10 per 1000 points, and the bonus/extra points depend on how many base points you buy/gift.

As shown in the email, the extra points depend on the number of base points bought / gifted, and ranges from 20% to 40%.

Because this is targeted, you need to check your email for this offer. Alternatively, you can login to your HHonors account, and see if you have a "Purchase" offer under "More ways to use points" on the sidebar (see below):

The above shows a case where no bonus points were offered. Here's another instance where the bonus is offered.

The effective price (including extra points) comes to Rs 0.5 per point (up to 9000 points), Rs 0.46 per point (10000-19000 points) and Rs 0.43 per point (20000-40000 points). The maximum points one can purchase in a year is capped at 40000.

Now I agree that buying say 28,000 points (including the 40% extra) for Rs 12,000 does not seem to make much sense, but there are a couple of Hilton properties in India (and also elsewhere in the world) that continue to offer rooms at 5,000 points a night. For instance, Hilton Jaipur. A deal like this will help you pay for a week's worth of stay (after the 5th night redemption free that Hilton HHonors offers for Silver, Gold and Diamond members), at Rs 12,000 compared to a room rate of Rs 6800++ a night.

If you haven't decided on your vacation plans yet, remember that Hilton Category 1 and 2 hotels are redeemable for 5k and 10k points a night respectively, and those (particularly category 1) are where you'll get most value from this purchase. Also, Travel Is Free has a superb interactive map of Hilton category 1 and 2 hotels, which you can refer to. So if you're planning a quick holiday any time soon, this may be useful for you to refer to, and combine with this offer, if that works for you.

You can also use this promotion, again provided you're targeted, to transfer points to another user, and get the same type of bonuses.

The redemption option also offers flexibility to decide later as to who you want to transfer the points to (via a certificate code that can be redeemed online later). There are also some T&Cs on the purchase/gifting page that you should read - nothing spectacular, though, except that the purchased points are not refundable, and they don't qualify for elite tier status.

While I agree this isn't necessarily a great deal in general, you could make use of it depending on your particular travel plans.
