More flights to Egypt, Accor improves LeClub, Will India compensate fliers the European way
Here are a few things in the travel space that caught my eye in the last few days (and in one case, almost a month!).
Effective October 2014, EgyptAir will introduce 3 weekly flights on the Cairo-Delhi sector. This supplements the 4 weekly flights on the Mumbai-Cairo route that they already run. At a phase when travel to Egypt is possibly the lowest it has been in the recent past, this additional capacity seems strange. However, I've heard conflicting reports about visiting Egypt - negative, from a friend that works in the US Government, and that it is absolutely safe, from an Egyptian friend that works in Dubai. But if it interests you, a lot of Hilton properties in Egypt are available at 5k points a night, and SPG's rates are also quite inviting.
This one's a bit old, but I realise I hadn't written about it, likely because Accor Le Club isn't a program that greatly interests me. Having said that, they've upped the benefits for Le Club members, including an increase of up to 25% on earnings (now stands at 5%, 6.2%, 7.4% and 8% respectively, for Base, Silver, Gold and Platinum). Their latest enhancements are outlined in this document, and you can visit the new Accor Le Club page here.
Finally, the Air Passenger Association of India has presented a white paper to the Indian government against what they believe is the "high handedness" of Indian airlines. The recommendations seek to provide compensation and relief to passengers for delays, cancellations, boarding denials and other such irrops. While these sound wonderful from a passenger point of view, the APAI will need to realise that this will make airlines so uncompetitive that it will likely act as a deterrent to exactly what it wants - better service from airlines - because some of them may consider shutting shop entirely.
