Hotel review: Ritz-Carlton, Bangalore

I think this post should be titled "Room review" instead of "Hotel review". Not just did I not use any of the hotel's facilities, I was in the room for a grand total of 4 hours, courtesy of a client who invited me to Bangalore and booked this room, but chose to take me elsewhere for a meeting and dinner. Nonetheless...

The hotel is rather new, having opened up only in November 2013. Therefore, it is yet to be corrupted by the general apathy that Bangalore residents show to its city. The layout of the property and hotel grounds is a bit strange - imagine an "L" shape. My room was at one end of the long arm of the L (which, coincidentally, was my room at the Crowne Plaza, Gurgaon (an inverted L, there).

The lobby is located on the third floor of the building (banquets and restaurants below), and presents a very comfortable and welcoming look. There's also lots of seating.

The entire hotel seems to have been quite spaciously and tastefully designed, and the overall feel was quite open and airy.

After checking in, I was taken to my room, via this really long corridor!

I did like the space outside the rooms - particularly the architecture and the small couch. This was there for every single room on each floor.

The rooms themselves are pretty large, with relatively lots of open floor space. Here's the view of the room upon entering it.

And the reverse view of the vestibule.

The couch with the ottoman was also particularly comfortable. I almost dozed off, in the couple of minutes I sat on it!

The overall lighting in the room, however, seemed a bit lacking. They've used minimal light points, which means that except in the day time when one can open the curtains and let the sunlight stream in (my room window faced east/north-east), the room is bound to look rather dim and dull.

There's also an iPad with some controls, room service options, and some music on demand (limited library, though). And before using the iPad, one has to electronically sign an agreement to be liable for up to Rs 40k for loss or damage of the iPad!

The bathroom is also no different in terms of space - large and open, though far far more well lit than the bedroom. See for yourself.

I really appreciated the bath supplies - from Asprey's of London!

Because I had to leave very early, I had paid (not just signed a pre-authorisation) using my credit card, on check in. Therefore, when I wanted some coffee in the morning (the espresso machine in the room had malfunctioned), the agent taking the order almost refused, saying that I'd already paid, and so they wouldn't be able to bill me for the cup of coffee. I had to politely tell her, that (a) the coffee machine wasn't working, and (b) I didn't think it would kill them to offer me a cup of coffee, gratis. I'm not sure she got the point, but when I went down to the lobby to check out, I found this waiting for me, compliments of the hotel.

And the cookies were truly to die for!

It was 4 in the morning, so I was able to get a few quite pictures of the hotel exterior, without any disturbance.

It was indeed a really short stay, but I liked it quite a lot (except the prices, though). Given a chance, and a fat wallet, I might even consider coming back here at least once, to try out what else the hotel has on offer.
