Complimentary HHonors Gold for HP employees valid through March 2015

Here's a great opportunity for HP employees (well, lets be honest - for anybody with access to a HP email address) to get complimentary HHonors Gold status, valid until March 2015. That's a whole year of Gold status, which can come in quite handy.

HHonors Gold is normally attained after hitting 20 stays, 40 nights or 75,000 base points. None of that is necessary under this offer.


Practically speaking, there is no way to verify if the HP email ID you provide is actually yours. Also in theory, you could use the email address of a friend or relative that works for HP (after all, there are over 300,000 employees of HP globally, so chances are you might know one of them, if not more, so getting access to an email address should be fairly simple), and after your status is upgraded to Gold, revert to your original email ID in your profile. However, that would be technically illegal, and if HHonors were to find out, then you stand to forfeit your existing status and all points held in your account, even if they were earned legitimately.

Hilton HHonors is one of the best mid-level elite status programs, and that's what makes this valuable. What's more, this offer may be useful to you even if you don't stay much at Hiltons, since you could potentially use the HHonors Gold status to match yourself to higher status in other programs - do check out this page on Statusmatcher.com for that, under the heading "Reports for leveraging status with Hilton HHonors".

I checked out of the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile yesterday morning, and checked into the Le Meridien Etoile, just around the corner from the Hyatt, in the evening after a day's sightseeing. Hyatt was kind enough to hold my bags for the duration of the day (which is a surprise in today's world of terror threats), and I'm grateful to them for that. Defunct airlines of India - Part 1

ASan and I met for lunch over the weekend. If you knew us personally, you'd know that we're both forever thirsty, if you get my meaning. Kolkata's new terminal, and what a relief! (And lots of pictures)

For the longest time, Kolkata (CCU) had pathetic terminals – both for domestic and international flights – and it was high time they did something about it. Now, the Airports Authority of India must be complimented on the new Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. The airport is really fresh, swanky, and actually makes the flying experience in and out of CCU a whole lot better. The new terminal is an integrated terminal for domestic and international flights, and set out in an wide “V” with unequal arms, the longer arm being the domestic side. The terminal building itself is at one end of the runway, and is to the right of the old terminal, when viewed from the city side (left from airside).
