Travel tools - upcoming reviews

I've been a bit tied up over the last week and more, with a lot of unexpected things coming up on the work front. Nonetheless, I've also been doing some background research for this blog, and preliminary thoughts indicate that things might well be looking up for the Indian traveler, as well as overseas travelers coming to India.

Essentially, I've found a couple of portals that offer travel tools. Now, there isn't much new to travel knowledge - there are tons of resources online, and a combined research of Wikitravel, Tripadvisor and a few guides such as Lonely Planet will help the typical traveler with enough information to navigate a new city. However, there are always tricky local aspects need to be navigated through.

MyGola.com is a site that specialises in providing customised itineraries for travelers, based on their interests. Their promise is for a user to customise a trip in 15 minutes, and book most of it online through their interface. I've been talking to the people at MyGola, and I'm told that they launched their product in the US a few months back. So it does seem that their site is useful more for Indians (or indeed, anyone) traveling outside of India. Their information on Indian destinations (with the exception of large cities) still needs a fair bit of work, and I'm told they are at it.

The other one that interests me is mustseeindia.com. Now this is entirely India-oriented, and on a current-state basis, that is one of the biggest differences between them and MyGola. The other thing I found interesting was the ability to fix up and book/pay for local transport as well as accommodation options. They've been operating for a few years, and I've used their portal a couple of times in the past. I believe there is good value in their service as well.

What I plan to do over the next few days is to review both of these tools, and possibly come up with a head-to-head comparative analysis as well. If you have anything specific in mind that interests you (and you want me to address), or any specific comparison parameters, do write in / leave a comment, and let me know.

See you on the other side, soon!
