SPG Take Two promo - slip of the mind...

I simply cannot believe I forgot to write about this promo. Maybe I was too caught up myself in trying to figure out if I could benefit from this, and as of today, it looks like I could.

Though I must admit, that in the absence of high-paying (in points) co-branded credit cards, and the fact that most of my stays are with Hilton, in general, I am not entirely sure how much use I could put Starpoints to.

Nonetheless..

So, to the SPG Take Two promo. Effectively, all stays between 1 September and 15 December 2013 are eligible to earn


  • 2x base Starpoints, plus 
  • an additional 2,500 Starpoints for every 5 qualifying nights stayed (doesn't have to be continuous or at the same property), up to a maximum of 10,000 starpoints (ie, totally 5*4 = 20 nights).


Registration is required, and can be done here, which is also the info page for the offer.There are quite a few properties that are not participating - here's the full list. Specifically from an India perspective, here are the non-participating properties:

  • Aloft Bengaluru Whitefield, Karnataka
  • Le Méridien Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu
  • Le Méridien New Delhi, New Delhi
  • The Westin Chennai Velachery
  • The Westin Pune Koregaon Park, Maharashtra
  • The Westin Mumbai, Garden City, Maharashtra

The reason is mainly because, while the 2500-10000 points are funded by SPG, the additional component of the 2x is funded by the hotel. Note, that the 2x is only on the base Starpoints, and not on the Starpoints earned on account of Gold/Platinum tier or any other bonuses. Here's the full set of terms and conditions.

According to the T&Cs, the 2x points may take 2-4 weeks after the relevant qualifying stay, to post. And the 2,500 - 10,000 points will take 2-4 weeks from the end of the qualifying stay, that included the 5th/ 10th/ 15th/ 20th night of stay.

Last month, I had stayed at The Westin Velachery, Chennai, which I'd written about. I remember checking out the SPG Take Two promo, and noted that that particular property did not participate in this promo. However, I stayed at the ITC Grand Central Mumbai a few days back, and have one more ITC stay coming up, where I propose to use apply my SPG preferences over Club ITC. Hopefully, this should come up to 5+ nights, and I'll only be happy to report how well the Take Two promo works.

I checked out of the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile yesterday morning, and checked into the Le Meridien Etoile, just around the corner from the Hyatt, in the evening after a day's sightseeing. Hyatt was kind enough to hold my bags for the duration of the day (which is a surprise in today's world of terror threats), and I'm grateful to them for that. Hotel review: Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium

As part of my recent business visit to Singapore, I spent an extra night there just so I could catch up with friends, some of whom I haven't met in over a decade. And because I needed one more stay to qualify for the bonus under IHG's Accelerate 2016 promotion , and also simultaneously earn a few more IHG Rewards Club bonus points under the Book Direct promotion, I decided I was going to spend the extra night at an IHG hotel. Luckily for me, just hours before my flight to Singapore, I was able to get a rate of SG$150++ a night, which is a fantastic rate for Singapore, especially for a booking as late as mine was.
