Free Marriott Silver status...

I think in today's times, it helps to be an Accenture employee. I'm only talking from a miles and points perspective, of course!!! A few days back, I had written about complimentary Hilton HHonors Silver status (with upgrade to Gold in 4 stays), which was intended for Accenture employees - not that employment was ever verified by Hilton.

Now (and I'm not sure if it is just a case of following suit in the spirit of competition), Marriott is also offering complimentary Silver status for Accenture employees. Normally, Silver requires 10 qualifying stays. Here's the link to the sign up page.

So, what does Silver with Marriott get you? You can see the benefits for Silver here, and the entire set of benefits for the Marriott Rewards program here, but to summarize the key ones:

  • 20% bonus points
  • free internet access at participating properties in Asia-Pacific
  • late checkout (YMMV)
  • weekend discount of 10% at specific brands / properties
  • access to elite-only rewards
  • some level of reservation guarantees
  • exclusive offers for elites

As I mentioned with the HHonors Silver offer, you must consider yourself warned: any misuse of privileges or falsified information in obtaining a deal could well leave you stripped off all the points you have - past or under the present offer.
  • I am not an employee or affiliate of Accenture or Marriott - let me be very clear about that ! This is just a reasonably good deal.
  • It seems that this deal is only for new sign-ups, and existing non-elite memberships cannot be upgraded to Silver under this offer.
  • While the membership is instant, Silver status will likely take up to 48 hours to get activated - look out for a communication from Marriott in your inbox

For those are not based in the US - the input form on the sign-up page seems to suggest that a US state is mandatory information. However, once you change your country, this is no longer mandatory (though the red * remains!).

Conclusion

Having Marriott Platinum or even Gold is better than having Silver. But I am the kind that firmly believes that having some status is better than none at all. There are always those little perks, priorities and preferences that come with having status in any rewards program. So from that angle, I'd still sign up (and I have). Here's what I've received so far:

I will try and update this post once I receive further communication from Marriott.
