Never say no to Elite extensions
A few months back, I had an opportunity to sign up to one of those free Platinum statuses that Accor Le Club offers every now and then. To be honest, I've not stayed at an Accor property since, and was naturally expecting my status to lapse. I hadn't prepared for the bit of French hospitality that surprised me earlier this week.I received the following mail from Le Club:
A whole new year to enjoy your Elite status

Quelle agréable surprise! Now you don't look a gift horse in the mouth, and so I'm going to STFU and await my card. On an aside, I don't have the platinum card from the previous registration in my hand yet, since I need to have completed one stay at least (which I hadn't). Lets see if they live up to their promise and send me the card now!
Accor Platinum, while not consistent in terms of what it offers (since they have multiple brands), can be a useful status to have, particularly with unlimited room upgrades (very useful) and late check-outs (almost mandatory, in my case). And of course, 4 points per Euro spent, as opposed to 2 for Classic, 3 for Silver and 3.5 for Gold levels. Here's the full spiel.
Conclusion
Nothing much to conclude per se, except that it is always worth signing up for such offers. At best, you will use them, and at worst, there's a bit of email to be sorted out and deleted. Plus, Platinum with Accor also helps to some extent in matching status with other programs, though not the biggies.
