Etihad Gold status match - update and a rejection note

A couple of months back, I had written about an offer from Etihad for complimentary status matches to the Etihad Guest Gold level. This was limited to the first 500 eligible members, and was based on their track record as well as status with other airlines. Etihad Guest Gold does have some benefits (and Adam from Point Me to the Plane writes about his success story here), but because they aren't members of any alliance (they rather prefer to have arrangements / tie-ups with specific airlines), those benefits are not really worth it unless you're going to fly EY almost exclusively. I doubt that!

To cut a long story short, I had applied for this status match at the time. And for a long while, there was no response from Etihad - And to be honest, I wasn't expecting to get it, though a small part of me thought they may consider my track record with 9W. No dice. Here is what I received yesterday:

At least it looks a bit stylish!

Better luck next time, I guess!
